AC Milan have the room to spend on a defender, after making €20 million on the Malick Thiaw-Koni De Winter deals. However, they don’t need to.
Sometimes, the best deals are not the ones done for ridiculous money. Football often is not a game of like-for-like in the mercato, and there has to be a level of intelligence used in this sense.

It would be nice to sometimes spend the same amount as was received. However, that is a luxury that is not always available for clubs. Of course, it is sometimes a luxury which is not even needed, as the Thiaw-De Winter deals show.
‘Talking nonsense’
Speaking in an editorial for Tuttomercatoweb, Fabrizio Biasin spoke about the situation, and MilanNews have relayed his words.
“Milan sold Thiaw for 40 and simultaneously acquired De Winter for 20. Some say, ‘It’s not done! You have to spend!’ and they’re talking nonsense. Oh, those are opinions. Thiaw at 40 is a great transfer; De Winter at 20 is an excellent addition.
“The fact that one costs half as much as the other is a merit, not a flaw. Milan is doing well in the transfer market, and not just because of how they’re selling. Then, obviously, the striker will make all the difference in the world, but that’s another matter.”
Given the Rossoneri still probably need a few more players in the squad, it would be unwise to spend for the sake of it on a higher-priced defender. Milan could, but whether they should, well, that’s another thing entirely.
Well you never know until he plays some games. Even Hazard flopped at Madrid due to injuries. But some of Milans best signings were bargains, fee means nothing.
It’s the number of signings and changes which is the main problem as usual.
They’ll get to close to 10 incomings and 10 outgoings at this rate to add to the similar numbers in previous years.
No other sport or organisation would accept such extreme levels of staff turnover, and it’s impossible to build a coherent team with this many changes.
This time there won’t be midweek European matches so they can spend more time to train to be coherent team.
According to all specialized websites about the value of players, De Winter is worth 22 million, and Thiaw is worth about 18 million. Therefore, the fact that Newcastle paid him 38 million does not mean that this is his true value, but that Milan sold him well, after the sale to Como for 25 million failed. And now they say Thiaw is better than De Winter??? Well, that’s what the same people who said that Thiaw is good for own goals say. All experts themselves. 🤣🤣🤣

Aside from Modric and perhaps Ricci – still many with question marks from health to youth to players who have never played at a big club or in the league. No guarantees. But this is Redbird. We spent half of the 150M thus far the rest will prob let go in their pockets to pay off debt or appease the shareholders. Assume that’s why we are after the unproven Hojlund – 9 goals w ATL and 4 goals with ManU? Yes while spending big money doesn’t always guarantee the players will perform – there is something to be said about purchasing players who have consistently performed year in and year out vs always buying young players with potential. It’s a gamble but Redbird could care less so long as that resale value increases. Thx to M&M for finding all that talent that we have now sold for big bucks. Time will tell (yet again another summer revolution) if it proves correct. At least we now have a tactical and proven winner in a coach. Fingers crossed

26 goals with ManU. 26 goals in 95 matches. Not great but far more than your 4 goals. And even if you look at only one season goals, he scored 10 in his debut ManU season.
Still not stellar but ignoring facts is just ignorant. Or being stupid. And we all know whether the shoe fits here. 😀
biasin dont understand. if u not compete in europe, u must strenghten ur squad more than before. if u want to go through the champions league, u must upgrade. not just average. milan is a big club, not a mediocre who think more focus on profit and always sell their best payers
I’m not saying hojlund is Ronaldo. But he scored his first year and 10 last year. United were a complete dumpster fire last season sitting just above relegation zone. He’s 22 6’3” striker. I think the price is too steep at 45 purchase option but he can be a great compliment to Santi.
