CM: Big opportunity presents itself for Thiaw as Pioli is ready to trust him

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli will line the team up with a three-man defence again tonight with Torino the visitors, handing an important opportunity to Malick Thiaw.

As Calciomercato.com report, Thiaw has perhaps the only of the 2022 summer signings who has so far shown positive signs and it seems as though Pioli is finally ready to put his trust in him from the first minutes.

In his press conference yesterday, Pioli said of the German: “He’s fine, he’s a strong player I rely on.” It is certainly a strong hint that the chance has come for Thiaw tonight at San Siro in a game where victory is the only option.

After three appearances in the Bundesliga with Schalke 04 at the start of the season, Thiaw joined the Rossoneri for €5m plus €1m in bonuses linked to appearances and another to team objectives. So far he hasn’t played a lot and has only five appearances (two being starts) for a total of 412 minutes.

The Rossoneri’s terrible run of form and inability to keep clean sheets – combined with the simultaneous transition to the three-man defence – could provide a turning point for Thiaw, who is ready to take his chance to convince Pioli.
