AC Milan and Juventus are both interested in signing Mats Hummels in what would be a free transfer, according to a report from Germany.
There is absolutely no doubting that Hummels can still contribute decisively at the highest level as he has been a big part of the Borussia Dortmund side that made it to the Champions League final against Real Madrid.
According to what is being reported by Bild, the 35-year-old’s contract in Dortmund expires on June 30th and everything remains open at the moment, including the idea of leaving the club he has such a strong attachment to.
Before the Champions League final against Real (June 1), three possibilities are on the table: he could retire after that game (given he wasn’t called up for the European Championship), renew with BVB or move to a ‘neighbouring country’.
Milan and Juventus are named in the report as being two sides that have a concrete interest in bringing the veteran central defender over the Alps, but not much more information is given.
It must be remembered that tomorrow night will be Simon Kjaer’s last game for the club given he will leave on a free, so perhaps the management feel there is a leadership void to be filled.
If he’s for free he fits the algorithm –
Gerry says he “wants to win” let’s see if he allows us get a champions league finalist defender
I’d take him even it means Gabbia moving to the bench. But we’d need to sell Thiaw and ensure Gabbia is our 3rd choice CB.
Would be an excellent signing.
His experience and leadership will be an additional value for our squad.
It seemed like they didn’t dare give him a salary. And Inter will hijack it
The “only” issue with him is his age.
Aside from this issue which could be minor, we’re talking about a world-class defender, very classy, with a lot of skills and leadership and who won multiple titles (including a world cup mind you) and 2 UCLs finals (possibly winning one). He could be the leader in defense which we’re talking about.
feels like he’d just flop and then you end up with an old player with a high salary
Ok for one season.
