Zvonimir Boban has confirmed that he was not invited to AC Milan’s 125th anniversary celebration that will take place during the Genoa game on Sunday.
During the post-match segment in the studio after the Champions League matches involving Inter and Atalanta, Boban and Fabio Capello wanted to pay homage to Milan. Capello confirmed he got an invite for Sunday but will not be able to make it.
Boban, on the other hand, stated that he will not be attending but because he was never asked to, with his comments being relayed by Calciomercato.com.
“A team that has made history, Milan is history: a magnificent and fantastic club. Once you understand how elegant it is, how much of a winner it has inside, you can’t take your mind off those colours,” he said.
“I wasn’t born a Milan fan but my father was a ‘Riverian’ [fan of Gianni Rivera] and when Milan contacted me he told me to go straight away. I have, have and will continue to have great love for this club throughout my life, which didn’t invite me for the 125th anniversary but that doesn’t matter.
“I’m obviously sorry but I don’t say it with rancour. I will celebrate the 125th anniversary being proud to have been part of it. My son is a crazy Milan fan, my father is a Riverian and we will watch the match with Genoa hoping for a victory and that there will be an atmosphere at the stadium worthy of this club.”
It must be said that the lack of an invite is perhaps expected, given there has been a nearly four-year ordeal between Boban and Milan, which came to an end recently with the third and final judgement from the court.
After being fired in 2020 after publically criticising the management in an interview, the former player was fired, and since then, Milan and Boban had been intertwined in legal proceedings.
When a team headed by a management that knows nothing much about the sporting and cultural implications of an institution of Milan status but only concern about the money making potential – they will have problem with many of their past legends, it’s not surprising many people are leaving , Maldini left, Boban left, the new sporting director resigned! Nobody wants to associate with these club, only SCARONI and the ego inflated ZLATAN-…trust me very soon, Furlani will be the next to resigned…I’m surprised Baresi and mazzara are watching this great club sinking into obscurity sporting wise…is it because of the peanuts paycheck or what? I’m sad many men are trading integrity for Money
Great player, one of my favorites, but another one in the line of incompetent people that Milan hired and continues to employ.
Leonardo was the only one who left the club without making a scene. Even though he wasn’t good at his job, he realized that the project of the club and his vision didn’t align and decided that they should go separate ways. Nof fuss, no muss.
The people after him thought that if you don’t like what the ownership that employs is doing just go and talk trash in the media.
Why would you be invited when you sued the club for firing you because you found out that the CEO, your boss, is trying to hire someone else to fix your mess? In what workplace it’s acceptable to publicly bash your employer and tell their plans to the media? But that’s what happens when you hire entitled and spoiled ex players in positions they aren’t qualified to hold.
There is a reason the best directors are people that either never played football or they were marginal players.
Milan refuses to address the most important position in the club, which is hiring a competent, qualified, well connected and experienced sporting director. Something that they haven’t had since the last few years of Galliani.
And the guys who were brought in to fix the “problem” have done so?
The management has no ethics, lack transparency and have lots of ego.
Maldini is “entitled”? wonderful.
Commenting first time here just to laugh at this take. What are you even talking about? All the best players we had in our Scudetto winning season are thanks to Boban. When him and Maldini where the duo in charge together was when Milan did the best business since I am a Milan fan and that is from the mid 2000s which includes Galliani.
Boban is one of the biggest experets in world football and sacking him is the exact reason why we are in this mess now. If he stayed we would have had a way better squad by now that is almost certain. He only got sacked because he backed Pioli when they wanted to replace him with Ragnick. And guess what? They ended up keeping Pioli who won the title in the end.
The bad business started when Maldini got promoted to have more power and Massara replaced Boban.
So Maldini is entitled because he calls the owners out on thier BS.
What a take. 🤣😂🤣😂
Oh well not surprised anyway.
