Director Zvonomir Boban has joked that even he sometimes wonders why he chose to join AC Milan this summer.
Boban left his role at FIFA to team up with former team-mate Paolo Maldini and sporting director Ricky Massara to form a new-look leadership at the Rossoneri under owners Elliott Management.
However, the management has come under fire recently, especially having hired and fired Marco Giampaolo as head coach after just 111 days.
Well-known journalist Mario Sconcerti spoke to Boban at an event on Friday, and asked: “For a journalist it is fundamental to think well, to ask why. For example: why is Boban at Milan?”
As per MilanNews.it, the Croatian responded: “I’m asking myself that too (laughs).”
Boban though did want to point out, for the avoidance of misunderstandings, that it was a joke.
“I like being at Milan, before it was just a joke. We are experiencing a difficult moment. Sacking a coach is a defeat for everyone, it’s a decision that we all have taken.
“Giampaolo is a good coach but it’s a decision taken for the good of Milan. We want to get results by playing well.
“I work to make Milan great again. I have been here for a while, we have to work hard in all respects.
“When things are not going well everyone are culprits, coach, players and us the directors.
“Upon Marco’s [Giampaolo] arrival to Milanello I told him ‘I hope to leave this city with you’. I did the same with Paolo [Maldini] with whom I share the office every day. We now hope to do well with Pioli.
“We need time, no one said we would excel right away. We have a young team. We are the youngest team in Italy. It is a process, we have not done any proclamations.
“We will do everything to bring Milan back to high levels as soon as possible. It is a process, we must create an increasingly strong team.”
