CorSera: Famous architect could be part of La Maura project but obstacles become clear

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan could call upon architect Stefano Boeri to design their new stadium if the La Maura plan goes ahead, a report claims.

Milan have confirmed this week that they are exploring the idea of ditching the joint project with Inter and building a new solo state of the art stadium on the current site of La Maura hippodrome, which of course would require a whole new design to be drawn up.

According to Corriere della Sera (via Calciomercato.com), the new stadium could be designed by Stefano Boeri as one of two projects in the area, with the first being the Nine Gardens of biodiversity.

When asked, Studio Boeri responded with a classic ‘no comment’ but the architect has already presented an idea for a stadium-forest project for the city in the past. However, the area for the potential new stadium site has now been designated as part of the Parco Sud, which means there are obstacles to overcome.

The park’s board of directors to say the first and last word whether the stadium and everything it carries with it 0 commercial, offices and anything else 0 is compatible with the aims of an agricultural park.

The law says that functions of public interest can be implemented in the park, provided that they are in line with the objectives of the park, with a program agreement the key to overcoming the many obstacles that will be encountered on the road.

The park has a greenery and agricultural vocation, so it will be up to the park’s board of directors to give their approval, which could then be met with various appeals.

Then there is a monumental constraint, for now, on a limited portion of the area. To date it does not concern the space where the stadium and the multipurpose sector would be built, but there could be requests to extend the restriction to the whole area.

Ultimately, any area chosen to build the new Milan and Inter stadiums will fall on a green area. What remains to be understood is what would happen if the Governing Council of the South Park said that the stadium and the like are not in line with the institution’s objectives.

At that point, if Milan were to really push ahead with that site, it would be necessary to amend the law of the park, both at a regional and national level, which again is likely to be met with a lot of appeals.

A program agreement takes a long time to secure, with the most optimistic predictions believing that one year is enough for an agreement to be voted on by the City Council, but pessimists believe it could take two.

  1. FFS, so we abandon the San Siro site because of the red tape just to go to another site full of red tape? Why the f*ck aren’t we just going to Sesto? Why? It’s an abandoned steel plant FFS. There are no green projects or “what’s the benefit” issues to deal with. The Sesto mayor has rolled out the red carpet. It’s 15 min by train from the Duomo. Jesus H. Christ, enough with these BS difficult sites.
