Bola Na Rede: Milan eyeing €45m Porto star as potential Maignan replacement

By Oliver Fisher -

There are some doubts about Mike Maignan’s long-term future at AC Milan and the management might just have his replacement lined up already, a report claims.

Maignan’s name has been circulating in the media more than usual over the past few days, given his latest injury problem combined with his drop in form during parts of this season and the recent Sky report claiming that offers will be taken into consideration this summer.

According to a report on Bola Na Rede in Portugal, Diogo Costa is the man that has been chosen by Milan in the event they lose Maignan, who could be moving to the Premier League this summer.

As per the commentator Luís Pinto Coelho, who spoke in the latest edition of Lei do Mercado, the Portuguese international goalkeeper could be signed by the Rossoneri to replace Maignan given the interest that he is accruing.

The same source stated that the agent Jorge Mendes is ‘already on the ground’ to work on both deals and that Costa could be sold by FC Porto for around €45m.

This season, the 24-year-old has played 43 games for the Portuguese club and he is widely regarded as one of the best young goalkeepers in Europe.

  1. I seriouslky doubt this rumor as the player is one of the best younger keepers around and has a 75 mil release clause and it seems a bit unlikely that porto would give any discounts on the player who has a contract lasting until 2027.
It would be a great transfer but seems out of our reach.

  2. Meet the headless chickens and the wolf. Starring Furlani, Moncada and Jorge Mendes. Jerry surely is a master at entertainment.

      1. Agree. This is just a rumor considering that we’re connected to two portuguese coaches… and possibly a portuguese agent (Mendes)

  3. Oh, come on, if we can get some one like Di Gregorio for 15-20 plus Colombo or Maldini and most of Maignan transfer funds can be saved to bring calafiori, buongiorno, or any other player. I mean there’s no point in selling Mike for 50-60 and getting replacement for almost same price.

      1. Yep, thanks to Jokic and Murray we have a great discount on trips to Galveston. Think they’ve already booked for next season also.

    1. Di Gregorio would be the obvious choice!!! Cheap(ish), Italian & already knows the league. And as an added bonus, he was probably the best keeper in the league this season. Why pay twice as much for a foreigner who has a 100x higher risk of flopping? Just because Moncada hates Italians? Still not a valid reason though.

  4. This would be a smart purchase if it happens but seems unlikely. I think I’m just about done with Maignan’s injury woes – never mind the Didaesque gaffs that’ve appeared in his repertoire for some strange reason.

  5. Milan will NEVER, EVER pay 45M for a goalkeeper. Throw a rock in Italy and chances are you’re gonna hit an excellent goalkeeper, why would they pay more than 15M-20M? Even Mike was like 16M when Milan bought him.

  6. Good replacement but I doubt this management willing to get him . They either get someone like di Gregorio or stick with sportiello which is sad 😢

  7. the mediocre M&M get best GK of French league in over paid price (18m), then our super scout dealing w/ the wise agent Mendes to get best GK of Portuguese league (better league) for almost triple price (45m), all is because our owner is so generous & our scout is so smart, such a good idea
