Bonaventura explains why his preferred position is on the wing

Giacomo Bonaventura came up big for AC Milan this past weekend, scoring the equaliser against Napoli in the 1-1 draw at the San Siro. Today, he was present in MilanTV’s studio to talk about several things (via MilanNews.it).

The midfielder played from start against the Partenopei and almost immediately proved his value to this team. In the 29th minute, just five minutes after conceding, ‘Jack’ got Milan back to level-pegging with a thunderbolt.

Over the past few years, he has been used both as a midfielder and a winger, switching seamlessly between the two. However, in the interview, Bonaventura revealed that he does have a preferred position, and more importantly why.

“We have several midfielders this year. In recent years I have played a lot as a midfielder and as a winger. For me it does not make so much difference, the important thing is to have clear ideas.

“In the midfield, you need to run more, because you are more involved in both phases of the game. As a winger, though, it’s a little less expensive from a physical point of view. I like being close to the goal, so I also think that it could be my right position,” he stated.

The Rossoneri are now gearing up to take on Parma on Sunday. Given his performance last time out, it would be strange if the veteran doesn’t play from the first minute, even though Hakan Calhanoglu will return from his one-game suspension.
