PM: Bondo vanishes from Milan’s midfield rotations – the reasons

Warren Bondo was one of two permanent signings that AC Milan made in the winter window, but not much has been seen from him recently.

PianetaMilan ask the question: what happened to Warren Bondo? Milan revolutionised the squad during the winter mercato, especially on a heated last day of the window. In the last few hours, Ismael Bennacer went to Marseille and Bondo was signed from Monza.

After a couple of rounds in Serie A spent on the sidelines due to a small injury, the Frenchman was included in the squad called up by Sergio Conceicao, who also tried him as a starter against Lecce in place of Youssouf Fofana.

Bondo vanishes

After the tactical change to a 3-4-3 system and the reinstatement of Fofana among the regular starters, Bondo has not seen the pitch anymore, a bit like Yunus Musah who was used more regularly before.

In the last few league and Coppa Italia matches, Conceicao even preferred Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Filippo Terracciano from the bench to give the starters a breather. Why? In the few minutes played with Milan, Bondo has shown that he is still a raw player for this level.

Yet, he has also demonstrated that he is a midfielder capable of giving a lot: running, aggression and pressing without the ball, good passing and other good signs. The future though remains to be deciphered, based on the head coach that arrives.

Kevin Zeroli will return from Monza and we will have to understand the fate of Musah, Loftus-Cheek and Bondo himself. The Frenchman will probably remain at Milan, given next year he will be eligible to be included in the European squad lists as a homegrown player. For now, he is a marginal piece.

  1. He’s remind me about kessie and bennacer. Holding midfielder and can keep the ball but I don’t know about his through pass.. But he have the talent at least to fofana backup. Better Bondo than musah the headless chicken, when he had the ball he don’t know either to pass or shot.

Please no more Ricci fan boys again. Milan no need. Milan already have Bondo, RLC / fofana in the midfield. Youth sector we have zeroli and liberali.

  2. He looks like good player, he will be good. If only on business, his price will rise for sure and I think he will play more and more from next season.

  3. To chose Terracciano over Bondo just shows how poor Conceicaos intuition is.

It took him months to understand that this team cannot play a 4 man defense.

It will probably take him months to realise that Bondo can become a much much better midfielder then a very limited Terracciano.

Since Bondo have the same characteristics as Fofana, how cant he be the natural choice to replace him?

    1. You need to be given a chance to coach Milan, because from all indications, you are better than Sergio.

  4. Bondo is a good player and will get his chance. Not sue why Terraciano is playing. perhaps our ‘lack of Italian representation’ gets him a few minutes. Milan can’t afford to experiment or even rest Fofana and Reijnders.
