Bonera happy but humble after Milan Futuro’s first league win: “Small piece of the puzzle”

Daniele Bonera can breathe a sigh of relief at least for the time being as Milan Futuro got off the mark with their first win in Serie C last night against SPAL.

After going winless in their first five games, the Futuro finally tasted a league victory for the first time as they beat SPAL last night. Hodzic got the opener but an equaliser in the final 10 minutes looked like grabbing the visitors a point, before Chaka Traore struck to secure three massive points.

The Rossoneri had previously struggled in truth, given that they had not only failed to get a win and had just two points from a previous 15 but they had also only scored one goal which was a penalty, therefore zero from open play.

Bonera spoke to Milan TV after the game to give his thoughts on what was another positive performance and this time with a result to match, which eases the pressure in the table for the time being.

How do you judge the game?

“First of all, we thank the structure, Solbiatese, the municipality, because they did a wonderful job. We are happy to have achieved our first victory here, in our new home.

“It was a tough match that we brought home with a lot of desire, because being caught and then overturning it again wasn’t easy. We’re happy and I’m happy for the boys because it’s a victory that’s a small piece in our path. But it gives us great confidence for the future.”

Is it an emotional moment?

“Super excited, content after the match. Content, happy, but anyway, as I told everyone, it’s a small piece of the puzzle. It’s clear that not being able to win in the first five was something that left a bit of a bitter taste in our mouths for what we had produced. So we’re happy with the victory.”

Did the game go as you planned?

“The first half was quite under control, and there was that opportunity. Then in the second half the match changed with the goal that gave us the lead. As I said before, the fact of being caught and then turning it around is something that gives even more value to the victory.”

What were SPAL like as an opponent and is Serie C more challenging than you thought?

“I think Serie C is a very difficult league. Those who don’t know it perhaps underestimate it. Group B is a difficult group. Today we met a great team, great players, a great coach, who I know.

“I knew we were facing a difficult team, and I have to say that the boys did everything they could to win. And as you said, it’s a small piece that we’re putting in our path. And we’re happy with the victory.”
