Italian teams have struggled in European competitions this season, with only one of the four teams reaching the Champions League Round of 16 (Atalanta, who got knocked out there). Things haven’t been brilliant in the other two competitions either, as Roma and Bologna got drawn against each other in the Round of 16 (the Giallorossi lost).

In short, a fifth Champions League spot for the 2025-26 season won’t be possible. In the meantime, the national team is hoping to secure a World Cup spot for the first time since 2014. They need to overcome Bosnia on Tuesday, having been forced to take the play-off route.
