GdS: Botman says no to Newcastle and agrees €25m contract with Milan – the situation

By Oliver Fisher -

Sven Botman has essentially make a pledge to AC Milan that he will join from Lille during the summer transfer window, a report claims.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), the Dutch defender has chosen to move to Milan over Newcastle once the transfer window reopens and the fact he was willing to reject the Magpies has paved the way for Maldini and Massara, who now have to find an agreement with Lille.

Botman has already made his decision and in recent days an agreement between Milan and his entourage has been reached an in principle over a five-year contract that should guarantee the player a basic salary of €3.5m net (which is €17.5m net in total).

Thanks to the tax discount provided for by the Growth Decree, the signing of Botman will cost just over €5m per season in gross, so around €25m. Maldini and Massara will have to find an agreement with Lille but they are likely to wait until nearer the end of the season so as not to cause any issues.

  1. And how could they ever succeed in coming to an agreement with Lille, the french club having rejected offers around 40 mill euros for Botman in the January-window? For me, this transfers still seems utterly unrealistic.

    1. Lille owe Elliot asset management a lot of money, its how we managed to get maignan for 13m, all these players Lille bought were paid for with this Elliot loan on the agreement that they would repay Elliot from the profits of their sales. I don’t think we will pay 40m probably closer to 30m maybe even less.

  2. Botman are good. But not better than what we have already!
Why we must spend money on him, and let Romagnoli leave for free!?
Club offer 3.5m basic wage to Botman, but wanna our Capitan go to 2.5m from 5.5m!!!
Extend with Romagnoli, and spend on worldclass AM and RW! Where is our main problem!
