AC Milan could well be on the verge of a new era as Investcorp are close to buying the club from Elliott Management, and an interesting summer market awaits.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the foundations of the upcoming transfer window and the Investcorp regime is that Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara will remain as technical director and sporting director respectively, while Geoffrey Moncada will stay on as the chief scout.
Then, the first target remains the same too as Sven Botman from Lille should arrive as the signing to kick off the Bahrain-based fund’s tenure. He is young (22), he has talent and he shouldn’t cost a lot considering the age-quality ratio which is why Investcorp too believe he is a wise investment.
An agreement with Lille is still to be found because the Ligue 1 champions have received big offers from Premier League clubs but Milan do not intend to participate in auctions and want to close for €30m, a deal facilitated by the agreement over terms already found with the player.
Then, attention will turn to a new striker. A good part of the strategy will depend on whether Zlatan Ibrahimovic goes on for another season, while it must be remembered that Maldini and Massara have been negotiating for weeks to sign Divock Origi on a free transfer.
The parties are still discussing the terms of a potential contract, and the Belgian’s profile is tempting because he can play either as a striker or as a winger. That’s why Ante Rebic could be sold and also why Origi’s arrival doesn’t rule out another signing.
The new name in vogue is that of Sebastien Haller, Ajax’s top scorer who is 27 years old and would cost about €30m given he has 33 goals in 38 games this season.
