Brahim Diaz ‘angry’ and Calabria left with ‘bitter taste’ after defeat against Liverpool

By Oliver Fisher -

After leading 2-1 at half-time against Liverpool, yesterday’s 3-2 defeat at Anfield has been tough for some players to take.

Milan failed to make the most of their Champions League comeback last night as Jurgen Klopp’s side eventually won 3-2. Despite scoring two quick goals at the end of the first half, thus going into the break with a 2-1 lead, Milan lost in their return in the competition.

For most of the game the Rossoneri simply weren’t on par with their hosts and will have a few things to work on, but given that it is potentially one of the most difficult first fixtures possible, there were certainly some positive signs.

Brahim Diaz spoke to SportMediaset after the match against Liverpool and revealed that he is not happy with merely the fact that the Rossoneri kept it a close game against one of Europe’s best sides.

“I am angry because we deserved more, we have shown that we are a strong team. Where can we reach the Champions League? We think about one game at a time, I think we can do great things,” he said (via MilanNews).

Defender Davide Calabria also spoke to SportMediaset and spoke of the ‘bitter taste’ that it left to lose a match in the manner that Milan did, with his quotes relayed by MilanNews.

“We have a bit of a bitter taste in our mouth because we managed to overturn a complicated game against a team among the strongest in the world. Sorry, we took two avoidable ones in the second half,”

On the performance of Milan: “There were great players on the other side, it is right to give credit to the opponents as well. Liverpool are certainly a team more ready than us and more used to playing certain matches.

“At the beginning it is true that we have worked too hard, then we managed to overturn it and perhaps at the beginning of the second half we had to remain more compact. They were good, but we had to be more careful.”
