Brahim Diaz discusses desire to rejoin Milan and decision to take the No.10: “I love this club”

By Oliver Fisher -

Brahim Diaz has expressed his delight to be back at AC Milan after securing his return on an initial two-year loan from Real Madrid.

On their official website, the Rossoneri announced the return of Diaz yesterday evening, stating that they have secured him on a loan deal until the summer 2023. However, the statement didn’t mention if there is a buy-out clause included in the deal, but most sources are reporting there is one set at €22m and a buy-back in favour of Los Blancos at €27m.

We have written at length about why the deal makes sense for Milan from a sporting and an economic point of view, and now fans can look forward to seeing him in action for at least another two seasons.

As is customary for all new or returning players, Brahim spoke to Milan TV about his feelings after securing a return to the Rossoneri, with his comments transcribed by MilanNews and translated below.

“I am very happy to be here again, in this great club. I am delighted with everything we did last year, but now a new season begins in which we will give our best: these colors deserve me to give 100% and that’s what will I do,” he said.

On the U21 Euros: “The U21 European Championship was a good experience. I got on very well with my team-mates. I think we deserved more but I was still very happy. It was an extra, very positive experience but now we have to look forward to the future. There will still be many experiences to live.”

On his debut for Spain and his first goal: “The first goal with the senior Spanish national team is one of the best moments of my career even though I remember many positive experiences, unforgettable days and unique moments.

“The circumstances allowed many players to make their debut against Lithuania, it was great to score at the debut and it made me super happy but I also experienced many wonderful unforgettable moments with Milan last year.”

On the choice of the number 10 shirt: “21 is a number that I really like but it is equally true that I have always liked 10 too: it is a unique number in the history of Milan. I know it is heavy and requires great responsibility for the value it has for Milan and for its colours.

“I will give my best for the fans and I will live up to this great club. I feel I can and want to do it. I love this club, I want to give my best and will take number 10 because I love it and it has a great importance at Milan. This gives me unique motivations and sensations. I will show my talent and I will sweat to the last drop of blood for this great club and I will fight to have a great season.”

On last season: “Last year I had a great time here, I had a lot of fun and I grasped the greatness of this club. This year we hope to be able to do better even if last year was a very positive season: now there is another season to to face and Milan deserve this group to be up to it. I think we are all ready to give our best and achieve great goals.”

On reuniting with Stefano Pioli: “The unity of the group is all thanks to Mr. Pioli as well as everything we have achieved: he has built a very good group with experienced players and young players who want to grow together.

“Thanks to him we have learned a lot, he has taught us many things and last year under his leadership we had a rather stable path and a positive season. Now we need to grow further following the coach to have another great season.”

On the talks about Milan with Ancelotti: “With Ancelotti we talked about Milan. He has the Rossoneri heart and loves this club very much. He told me to give my all for this team and for such a great club. He was very happy for my return here. I had very good days with him, we talked a lot about Milan and the greatness of this club.”

On the Milan fans: “I can’t wait for the fans to come back to the stadium. For me it was a unique experience. Milan have fans all over the world and they are incredible. It was great to see how they have always been by our side last year. always supporting us. They were fundamental for us, they made us give more and more. I can only say to always be by our side, we will give our best. It is a pleasure and an honor to have their support.”

Finally, a message to the fans: “Greetings to all the fans. I am very happy to be here. Thank you all for the support and affection.”
