Brahim Diaz insists Milan ‘need to improve’ after ‘difficult to swallow’ defeat against Lille

By Oliver Fisher -

Playmaker Brahim Diaz has revealed that AC Milan’s 3-0 defeat to Lille on Thursday night is ‘difficult to swallow’, with the unbeaten run ended at 24 matches.

The Rossoneri were handed their first defeat of the season in unceremonious fashion as the Ligue 1 high-flyers put them to the sword with an impressively effective performance.

It was the Yusuf Yazici show in truth as the Turkish forward scored a fantastic hat-trick, firing home from the penalty spot before the break and putting them out of sight in the second half with two exceptional shots from outside the area.

Brahim Diaz was interviewed by Sky Italia after the defeat against Lille, with his comments transcribed by MilanNews and translated below.

On the match: “We didn’t play a great match but we gave away two goals, we need to improve and stay focused for the next matches.

“We have to continue as we were doing, this evening is difficult to swallow, we have to keep our feet on the ground and continue.”

On his role, he added: “I can play in any position and I will give my best.”

Speaking to Milan TV, he added: “We didn’t have time to talk to each other, we’ll do it in the next few hours. On Sunday there is immediately the possibility to get up.”

What went wrong tonight? “The team was not as lucid as on other occasions, the first two goals conceded made the difference in the game.”

How much desire do you have to redeem yourself? “It was just a defeat, we want to start winning again from the next race with great team spirit.”

In our player ratings, Brahim Diaz was the only player who really spared big criticism, registering a mark out 5.5 out of 10 for what was a tireless performance without much reward.
