CM: Brahim Diaz will remain and has a point to prove – a future-defining season awaits

By Oliver Fisher -

Despite rumours that his loan spell could be ended early, Brahim Diaz will be staying at AC Milan and is out for redemption in the coming season.

Calciomercato.com confirms that Brahim Diaz will not leave the Rossoneri early despite the choice of Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara to go for Charles De Ketelaere of Club Brugge and Hakim Ziyech of Chelsea.

Trust in the Spanish playmaker has been renewed, and next season will be his third at the club with the management hoping for a Leao-esque explosion. There will be a decision to make in June 2023 together with Real Madrid when his loan is up, however.

Milan paid €3m for the loan and can buy him permanently for €22m next summer, but Los Blancos have a buy-back at €27m that they can exercise in that window only.

Brahim has returned in shape from the holidays and is playing to prove that he deserves to be bought. The 4 goals and 4 assists in 40 total matches last season are not a sufficient number for someone with the No.10 shirt, but there is a chance to put things right.

  1. Wouldn’t of kept Diaz.

He’ll have chances but I think he will quickly be behind Adli.
Then also De Ketelaere, Ziyech, Dybala or any one else that arrives.

It would be good if I am wrong, but I think this is a long season ahead for Brahim.

  2. Loan only 3m euro while his salary only 1m euro nett and real pay half his salary,i dont see reason why we must end his loan . He have muscle now ,maybe he is training hard to increase his body balance. If he perform well just activate buy option but if flop just return him at the end of next season. He can compete with CDK for AMF position ,thats healthy for team

  3. Maybe they can try to put brahim diaz at RW position since he’s good with both feet and has decent speed and dribbling but dunno about scoring.

    1. Yep. He should have been tried as RW ages ago as he struggles in the middle due to being way too weak – he gets pushed aside just like that. As a winger it would be less crowded and he’d have more space.

And let’s be honest. Saelemaekers & Messias didn’t play that well either so Pioli would have had nothing to lose by trying Diaz there.

  4. The Midfield is getting congested at Milan. Get CDK, and maybe Dybala who will be an easier deal since he is a freebie and then focus on a young player with potential at CB to complete the squad. Pioli can use the preseason and test Radu, Pobega and Adli in the defensive midfield position to help rotate Tonali and Bennacer. There are solutions to be tested, and leave Sanches to go where he wants to. No point spending time and energy on players who don’t want to come. I have faith that Pioli can unearth players in the right positions with sufficient time to do so. CDK and Diaz can compete for the trequarsta and Dybala can give us more attacking options on the right. And let’s just close this mercato and move on.

  5. If Brugge plays hardball with CDK, get Dybala, he can play both AMF and RW if his fitness levels permit, and let’s focus on a CB. Or look at getting Lang from Brugge as a cheaper solution for both AMF and RW positions. Developing the current crop of many Midfield players we have to rotate in the right positions will solve this mercato that is proving to be so challenging with the tight budget

  6. He’s failed at every club. He’s too small. Better to send him back and give someone from the youth team a chance. He’s only going to play friendlies and the Coppa Italia.

    1. He has shown glimpses of what he can do when he’s at his best. The issue is that he shows THAT quality maybe once in 10 matches – and even then for only 10-20 minutes.

IF he can find that level and keep it up, he’d be worth 100M€ and have 10 goals + 10 assists per season easily. But that’s a biiiiig IF… Perhaps the muscles he’s built helps him stay up this season and not fall over so easily?

  7. Diaz can be a very good player if he wants to, but don’t blame it on his size, size never stopped Messi from being the best… also see Pedri
