Former AC Milan sporting director Ariedo Braida has revealed an interesting back story regarding his pursuit of Frank Rijkaard, and backed the Rossoneri to return to Europe’s elite.

Braida spoke to Sky Italia about the acquisition of Rijkaard, who signed from Sporting CP back in 1988.

“The fans of Sporting Lisbon did not want to sell him and went wild in the offices of the Portuguese club’s managers,” he said (via MilanNews).

“I ran away with the contract in my pants because it was the safest place to keep it (laughs).

On Milan: “Milan are always Milan and they deserve to return to Europe. In the future they will write important pages in football again.”

On Daniel Maldini: “The Maldini family knows football well. If the youngsters are good you have to let them play. Daniel is good and therefore deserves to play.”
