Club Brugge coach comments on Milan’s De Cuyper interest before Champions League clash

AC Milan host Club Brugge in the Champions League tomorrow night, and ahead of the clash, the visitors’ manager Nicky Hayen spoke to the press to discuss Maxim De Cuyper and the clash itself.

In recent weeks it has been reported that Milan hold an interest in the Brugge left-back De Cuyper, and Milan will welcome a chance to watch him at San Siro, given they have previously employed this tactic when scouting players.

With Theo Hernandez yet to sign an extension with the Rossoneri, the left-back position has been extensively discussed, but he will return to action against the Belgian outfit on Tuesday as confirmed by Paulo Fonseca in his pre-match press conference.

Away from the interest in his left-back, the Belgian discussed his side’s ‘tradition’ at San Siro whilst also offering his opinion on how to win at the iconic stadium, and his words have been relayed by Milan News.

Do you know the history?

“Twenty-one years ago we weren’t beaten here and we want to continue the tradition.”

Who worries you about Milan?

“I’m not talking about individuality, but there are great dangers. They have great quality and haven’t shown it all yet. We expect great pressure going forward. They are growing, we expect a higher level.”

Will you choose more experienced players tomorrow?

“We have a big squad, let’s see who is in better shape.”

Fonseca gave the formation… Will you give it to us?

“We have done our homework.”

How to avoid defeat tomorrow?

“You have to be focused, without distractions in the stadium, very patient. They want to challenge us by finding spaces and we must not fall into that trap. We have to play our game like we did against Dortmund. We must continue on our path, the players need confidence.”

Will you be able to be focused for 90 minutes?

“We must try to put into practice what we have prepared, then it will also depend on Milan.”

There has been talk of Milan about De Cuyper….

“Every player has a certain ambition and wants to progress in his career. He has a lot of quality, we will see in the future. He is very important for me. It’s very important in the meantime that he meets our expectations, then we’ll see if he finds his space at another club in the future.”

Will Skov Olsen play?

“All my players can play tomorrow, including Skov Olsen.”
