Buffon reveals what he told Maldini after Milan signed Maignan and the message to PSG

Former Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has revealed that he messaged Paolo Maldini after AC Milan signed Mike Maignan from Lille last summer.

The departure of Gianluigi Donnarumma has turned out to be an important point in the recent history of Milan: not only because a big talent left, but also because it set a precedent for other departures like Hakan Calhanoglu and Franck Kessie.

In spite of all this, Donnarumma’s decision has not really harmed Milan’s on-field fortunes because Maignan has completely filled the void left by the Italian. The French goalkeeper has shown incredible reflexes to stop shots that other top keepers simply couldn’t, while his distribution is also exceptional.

Buffon went on stage at the Trento Sport Festival organised by La Gazzetta dello Sport, and he was asked about Maignan given the previous speculation that he told Paris Saint-Germain to sign the Frenchman.

“When I returned from Paris to Juve they asked me about goalkeepers. I said of Maignan of Lille, but no one considered him. I was wondering why. When Milan signed him I sent a message to Maldini, saying that few believed in him but that they had recruited a great goalkeeper,” he said (via MilanNews).
