Buongiorno admits Napoli must recover before Milan test: “Happy to win”

AC Milan tracked Alessandro Buongiorno heavily last season and made attempts to sign him. However, he ended up at Napoli and looked ahead to tomorrow’s game this morning.

There is a lot on the line at San Siro tomorrow night, and multiple things will be affected by the result. Most notable is Milan’s position in the table, with an 11-point gap possible with a loss. Elsewhere, a defeat could damage Paulo Fonseca and the management’s reputation.

Throughout the summer, the fans cried out for Antonio Conte, so if he was to snatch three points at San Siro then there could be an almost ‘point-proven’ reaction from some, perhaps.

Sticking on the topic of targets, Buongiorno was another request from the fans, and the Rossoneri pursued the central defender heavily throughout last season, even offering him a contract in the January mercato. However, a move was never finalised.

Today, the defender spoke to Radio CRC about the upcoming fixture, and his words have been relayed by Milan News.

“Now we have Milan, we have a few days and we must try to recover as soon as possible mental and physical energy to try to win the match. We’re happy to win at the Maradona and we hope to continue like this.”

  1. Not getting Buongiorno was one of the biggest mistakes management made over the summer. Young, Italian, left footed, future long term national team player… Instead they thought Thiaw and Tomori were good enough, blew 20 mil on Emerson and we’re left with a disfunctional defence. Again.

  2. Milan is deathly allergic to spending 40mil on a single player. Buongiorno would have been a good buy but would have struggled with the likes of Tomori/Pavlo/Thiaw next to him…
