Cadena SER: Milan on pole to land Asensio amid Real Madrid’s unwavering position

AC Milan are still in the race for Marco Asensio as Real Madrid face a dilemma regarding his future, according to a report from Spain.

According to Cadena SER, Asensio is still unclear about his future. He still has a year on his contract with Real Madrid but he wants more guarantees with regards to playing time, meaning there are three options on the table: he will either renew with those guarantees, leave this summer or fulfil the last year on his deal and go for free.

Jorge Mendes and the player’s entourage are already aware of Real Madrid’s position which is that they want Asensio to stay and renew his contract but at the same salary and with no promise in terms of the amount of minutes he will get.

Just as they did with Varane, Los Blancos will wait to receive an offer they deem sufficient during the summer and then he could be sold. Regarding potential suitors, Milan continue to insist and are the team that is on pole as per the source, while Juventus have been tested by Mendes, just like Newcastle and another Premier League team.

Real Madrid’s stance is not going to change and they have set an asking price of €40m for the 26-year-old. They will not give him a pay rise and given there is no security of a starting spot in September and October, there is a risk regarding not being called up for the Spain squad for the World Cup in Qatar.
