Calabria admits Milan must do better but VAR incidents ‘always go against us’

By Isak Möller -

Davide Calabria, who wore the captain’s armband tonight, didn’t have his best game for AC Milan as they lost 1-0 to Porto. The same can be said for many of his teammates and they now find themselves in a tough position.

Milan, to tell the truth, were really poor this evening and the individual performances just weren’t there. This didn’t help Stefano Pioli’s side and questions have to be asked. Calabria, just like many of his teammates, wasn’t overly successful.

In an interview with Mediaset after the game, as cited by MilanNews, the right-back shared his thoughts on the performance. He also commented on the potential free-kick for Milan just before Porto’s goal.

“I don’t like to find excuses. I’m sorry because we could and should have done more, if it went like this there will be a reason. Let’s not cry about this. We are doing well in the league and we must continue like this.

“Their goal? From the pitch, it seemed like a foul, lately it has gone wrong with VAR: 50-50 incidents always go against us,” he stated.

Hopefully, Milan can pick themselves up and at least finish their Champions League adventure with a bit more pride. They can still advance, but it will be extremely tough as everything will have to go their way.

    1. Sure porto was the dominant side but they nevertheless won the match on a goal that shouldnt have been allowed to stand…So had VAR been used as intended it would have been a different end result, simple as that everything else is pretty much redundant.

    2. Yeah the first goal should have been disallowed but Kalulu got away with one in the box so a wash there. I think it’s time for the young Milan squad to grow a little. They spend too much time appealing for fouls. It’s time to realize the refs are against Milan and they have to play in spite of that!
