Calabria expecting ‘all-out’ game vs. Dortmund and explains process of improving

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan defender Davide Calabria has insisted that he is learning from each mistake that he makes, while he hopes to draw from the same spirit that has seen tennis star and Milan fan Jannik Sinner have success.

Borussia Dortmund arrive at the San Siro as the current group leaders after their back-to-back wins against Newcastle United. With PSG in second hosting Newcastle tomorrow, it is close to a must-win situation for Milan.

However, they will take confidence from returning to winning ways on Saturday in front of over 70,000 home fans. It was far from a vintage performance and they were made to scrap in the second half, but Theo Hernandez’s penalty was enough to end a four-game winless run.

Calabria spoke alongside head coach Stefano Pioli in the conference room at Milanello on the eve of the game to preview the visit of the Bundesliga’s fourth-placed side, and his comments were relayed by MilanNews.

Must you take inspiration from the PSG game?

“Playing against great players gives you great difficulties, but you certainly improve and that’s what we want.”

Will Milan have to be like Sinner?

“We hope to have Jannik’s talent and can’t wait to put it on the field.”

What kind of a game do you expect tomorrow?

“I expect an all-out game, face-to-face, with a team that attacks a lot, great counter-attacks.”

Milan have conceded goals and big chances from similar corner situations…

“Yes, we faced it in recent days trying to fix situations that we could have done better”

How do you as a player look to improve?

“We have to do it by working and analysing the video: I made a mistake myself. We are high-level players, we have to understand the mistakes and do better on the pitch.”

What are your emotions from the weekend, after Camarda’s debut and Sinner’s win?

“We pass for superheroes, but we are 15, 18, 25 year olds. We enjoy the joy of playing football. It’s a job, we put in the determination, intensity and desire. And we do it to make our parents happy and to give satisfaction to the fans.”
