Calabria and Leao issue statements in response to partying videos

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan duo Davide Calabria and Rafael Leao have both issued responses to videos that allegedly showed them out partying after the 5-0 defeat to Atalanta.

Leao started and Calabria came on at half time as the Rossoneri were crushed at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia to end 2019 on the worst possible note.

Both the aforementioned had particularly bad afternoons – particularly Calabria at left-back – though they were seen out later in the evening partying in bars.

However, both players have now spoken out to try and fix the rumours, starting with Davide Calabria who posted the following on his Instagram story. His words were transcribed by MilanNews.it.

“I didn’t think I’d have to find myself here to explain what happened, but given the useless clamour created I think it’s fair to say these words. I take all the responsibility and I apologise to those who felt offended indirectly, but it was not my intention.

“The party was organised long ago. My birthday is December 6th but I decided to organise it on the 22nd specifically when the holidays began so as not to compromise training (since someone spoke of non-professionalism). Nobody could foresee such a defeat. Beyond the footballer I am a human being like all of you, and I bet I know that anyone, even if they have bad moments while working, wants to pull the plug and try to have fun with his friends and relatives to also cheer up. I was having fun because it was my birthday party, moreover I hardly ever spend an evening all together like this, should I have stayed in a corner to mull over? I don’t think it’s the right thing to do, and whoever works in this world knows it.

“Life as a footballer is one thing, private life is another, mine and personal. Finally, I want to underline, since someone managed to pull the attachment to the shirt in the middle, a bigger Milanista than me, with a red and black blood like mine, who has spent so many years in this great family, is difficult to find it.

“Thank you

“David.”

Meanwhile, Leao posted a response to the video on his Twitter account, insisting that the video of him smoking and drinking is in fact old – despite it seemingly been an Instagram story (which only shows the last 24 hours).
