GdS: Calabria could be given chance vs. Cagliari with Emerson suspended – the options

With Emerson Royal suspended, Sergio Conceicao may be left with an opportunity to hand out, and it could be given to the captain, Davide Calabria.

Conceicao is making his final preparations ahead of Milan’s clash against Cagliari this weekend, and the Portuguese head coach could be forced to give out an opportunity due to a suspension in the defence.

With a yellow card in the Supercoppa Italiana, he has been given a suspension for the game this weekend meaning the Portuguese has a decision to make, and right now, it is unclear who will be given it.

The obvious and probable choice is Calabria, as Gazzetta dello Sport write. After all, he is the club captain and with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, it gives the coach a good opportunity to assess the defender, and whether he has the qualities to perhaps earn an extension.

Aside from that, the report suggests that Alex Jimenez could be shifted back into defence, perhaps if Leao is able to play a more prominent role at the weekend, and it is stated that the chances of this are likely at present.

There is no mention of Filippo Terracciano though, which is surprising given his role so far this season.

    1. Calabria seems intentionally frozen out of d team… Dunno d grouse of d management against Calabria. He is not d best RB, but certainly better than Emerson…. I don’t understand a management that chooses to spend 15m on Emerson and chose to let Calabria leave for free…

    1. Really?
You know Emmerson started when we beat Juve.
Emmerson started when we beat Real Madrid.
Emmerson started both games when we beat Inter.

Calabria started the first game of the season when we drew 2-2 to Torino.
Calabria started the second game when we lost to Parma 2-1.
Calabria started against Liverpool when we got thrashed 3-1.
You still feeling good about it?
Calabria lost his job deservedly so.
But he did do well against a Serie B side in coppa Italia.

    1. He’s had plenty of chances to prove that already and he has not. These coaches see these players in training everyday. You do not.
Both Fonseca and now Conceicao have chosen to start Emmerson over Calabria. That should tell you something.

      1. I agree. I think Emerson and Calabria both stink but the coaches go with Emerson so that speaks volumes. But Calabria will have a chance to play Saturday so it’s a chance for him to prove he’s the better bad option. Doubt he will but you never know.

  1. I think Terracciano is Milan’s second worst player after Emerson. Or third if we consider Origi.

I wasn’t impressed with Jimenez as a full back, on either side of the pitch. I think he is a more impressive attacker than a defender.

Given the lack of better options, I guess Calabria should start.

    1. What’s your definition of decent? Letting the opponent’s left back run around you easily to then cross at will, producing scores? Trying to help the defense by crossing the ball into the box, but ineffectively hitting a defender almost every time? Emerson had the occasional good action but even a broken clock is right twice a day. His very rare good actions were dwarfed by his numerous blunders.

Emerson is not decent. Emerson is a disaster, and very often the player with the lowest score when you look at every professional journalistic source.

Emerson is Milan’s worst player, if we don’t count Origi. He’s not decent at all. He is slow and clumsy, and has poor positioning. He leaves enormous spaces uncovered, and left wingers have a field day when they play against him. It’s embarrassing.

The only times Emerson was a bit less of a disaster in certain games was when Musah and Pulisic overextended themselves trying to help him. That means that these players were then less available for other tasks and were more fatigued.

I’m hoping that Conceição will see it, and tell the managers, “sell this bum; he doesn’t deserve to wear Milan’s jersey.”

Tottenham fans were extremely excited when it surfaced that we’d be getting the hot potato from their hands. A journalist called Fondazione Milan’s biggest charity donation, those 15 Million Euro we paid Tottenham for this mediocre player.

I can’t believe we got rid of Kalulu for some 13 Million, in order to spend 15 Million on Emerson.

Emerson’s national team looked at him three or four times years ago then never called him up again. Decent coaches who know what they are doing, easily notice how bad he is.

Fonseca wanted him. Fonseca is not a decent coach and he doesn’t know what he is doing. That’s why he wanted Emerson.

For me, this is a sort of litmus test for Conceição. If he doesn’t put pressure on management to get rid of Emerson and get him a better LB, I will question Conceição’s judgment.

      1. Once again, Emmerson is better than Calabria and two different coaches now have drawn that same conclusion, as evidence by the fact they chose to start him over Calabria. Again, these are professional coaches at the highest level, what do you do?
“Fonseca doesn’t know what he’s doing”.
I’m pretty sure he knows more than you do.
I’ll trust their judgement over yours.

        1. You’ve asserted we don’t see Calabria and Emerson in training.

The eye test in the few games Calabria has played tells me he is superior.

I assert you don’t see the directives from management to th coach.

So given the eye test Calabria is better. Your stats above mean nothing as you are pushing a team result as an individual measure.

Emerson was a mistake. Mistakes happen. Let’s move on. Thankfully we have Calabria to move on too at this time

          1. What eye test? The first 2 games of the season he started when we drew 2-2 to Torino, or the 2nd game where Parma beat us 2-1? Or the Liverpool match he started where we were thrashed 3-1?
Please tellme. The only match he actually looked good in was against a Serie B side in the Copa Italia. The eye test is a cop out as everyone will see things differently. My eyes tell me Calabria is too slow and always out of position and doesn’t have the speed to make up for it.
Again our coaches have eyes and see way more of the players than we do.
I don’t think either of these coaches are the type to let management tell them who they have to play. Fonseca benched our 2 biggest stars. I’m sure management did not tell him to do that. And Conceicao doesn’t seem like a pushover either.

          2. P.S. if your best argument is speculation about what you think management may or may not have instructed the coach to do, that is not any argument at all. Seeing as neither one of us knows that, the only thing you can go by is what both coaches actually did. And that is they both have chosen Emmerson over Calabria.
Calabria has been declining for years now. Even if you think Emmerson was a bad signing, there was a reason they were looking for a RB in the first place. And that reason is that everyone knows Calabria is not good enough anymore. So you might want to get those eyes checked.

        2. Buddy, Stevie wonder could see Emerson is literally the worst RB in the entire Serie A. He has provided NOTHING. Do you watch the games whatsoever?

          1. This. I don’t get why anyone would think he’s better than Calabria – let alone an empty trashcan standing on the pitch. Oh well, let the delusional people be delusional as long as they don’t harm anyone.

    2. You’re either just a Tottenham shill or an absolute brain devoid imbecile🤣Emerson has been arguably our worst player in YEARS, including Origi. He does absolutely nothing forward or defending, a traffic cone would hold the line better. Gtfo of here with this nonsense

    3. Parma? lazio? Inter ? leverkusen? club brugge? venezia? real madrid ? and so much more calabria is trash can meanwhile emerson is the trash calabria is a decent rb emerson has been the worst premier league rb for years and was so bad barca sold him a few months after they bought him

  2. emerson is clearly the worst milan player after origi there is a reason brazil never calls i´him up anymore and tottenham we’re exited sure he hasnt been perfect but surerly much better than emerson

  3. Also when emerson played
    3-3 cagliari
    2-2 lazio
    2-1 atalanta
    2-0 napoli
    2-1 fiorentina
just beacuse we are winning with emerson as our starting rb dosen’t mean he is better in most of these games we have won with emerson as our starting rb he is either the worst or one of the worst

  4. He also started:
    1-0 Leverkusen
    0-0: Genoa
    1-1 Roma
    0-0 Juve

Very strange argument to just pick a couple of games Milan won when Emerson played vs some Milan didn’t when Calabria played.

Also for the against Real, Fonseca literally had to change the entire way the team played by having Musah as some kind of extra RM/RWB because he didn’t believe that Emerson was capable of defending his side without the extra help.

    1. That’s K for you! Cherry picking of the worst kind. Glad someone had to pull out the stats as I’m tired of doing it. And as usual that contradicts his poorly grounded point…and rather easily so ..once more. It’s very simple….he hates Calabria and Theo and will play mental gymnastics to downplay those players. Btw, you can add on Atalanta loss, Leverkusen loss, Fiorentina loss and many more to that list of Emerson starts. It’s so silly. Like who is he fooling?
Btw Fbref has Calabria as a higher +/- per 90 for goals scored/conceded than Emerson and he’s been on the field more than Calabria smh 🤷‍♂️. That alone should tell us what we need to know

  5. calabira has played 499 miniutes and has 1 goal meanwhile royal has played 1699 minutes and 0 goals and assist to make it further last goal he made was 2023 about 1 and a half year ago and his last assist was back in 2022 before the last world cup just show how bad he is calabria last season got 1 goal and 4 assist when he actually played which is pretty decent any fool like k and mahmoud that thinks royal is better needs to watch football not golf
