AC Milan defender Davide Calabria has declared that the current feeling around the team is good thanks to a ‘super positive moment’.
Heading into preseason it seemed a formality that Milan would sell the Primavera graduate after a disappointing 2019-20 campaign that was hampered by injuries, suspensions and general poor form.
Calabria’s resurgence as a Milan player after a difficult time of things are a perfect reflection for the team in general, as pretty much every member of the squad has raised their level of performance and the plans of Stefano Pioli are now bearing fruit.
Milan are 22 games unbeaten in Serie A and are currently three points clear at the top of the league table, with whispers beginning to emerge that a title challenge could actually happen.
He spoke to Radio 105 about his season with the Rossoneri so far and about life away from the football pitch.
“Both the team and I are doing well, it’s a super positive moment for everyone,” he said (via MilanNews).
On Maldini: “I call him Paolo, I played with his son since we were little. The relationship remains one of friendship and respect, his role is important for us.
“I started as a midfielder, Paolo was an idol more from the point of view of the person than the role. That Milan had a truly exceptional group.”
On the hectic schedule: “Continuity is part of a fundamental path for a player, I have never been so good despite playing every three days. Having to be concentrated every day has done me good.”
On his music taste: “I am passionate about techno-house, we are using it as a team to charge us, I do not reveal it because then the others are loaded too. We put it on as soon as we are one, two minutes from the stadium, we put the stereo on the bus. It started from post lockdown, it’s bringing us good luck.”
On what happens after a match: “It is essential to disconnect for a while. We watched the videos this morning and tomorrow, there will be plenty of time to think about it. At Milanello we have already prepared everything, we are run in.”
On having believed in the potential of this team: “I have to say yes, since the post lockdown we have had continuity. We are top of the rankings since 2020, we are first with a little gap from Atalanta. It is essential to believe in ourselves.”
Main reason for this form is that midfielders are helping defenders a lot. Last year Conti/ Calabria played alone on the side. Suso was non-existent on defence and Paqueta lost a lot a balls. Now Saelemaekers + Bennacer gives a lot of trust along Kessie tower.
