Calabria full of praise for Milan’s new signings including Pulisic: “He is adapting very well”

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan defender Davide Calabria believes that the new signings have made a very positive impact so far, settling into a ‘young and ambitious’ group.

Milan made it two wins from two last night as they beat Torino 4-1 at San Siro. Christian Pulisic opened the scoring but Perr Schuurs hit back for the away side not long after. Olivier Giroud’s penalty restored the advantage before Theo Hernandez netted to make it 3-1 going into the interval.

Giroud would convert another spot kick in the second half after Rafael Leao was fouled to add some gloss to the scoreline, and make it six points from six with six goals scored and one conceded.

Calabria spoke to Milan TV after the game to assess what was another successful night for the Rossoneri and one that puts them top for the time being.

“I’m almost not surprised by our fans’ support. They haven’t missed a single game following us for years. They have always cheers us on and supported us, and we do our best to reward them for their passion,” he said.

“The new signings have adapted quite well and it’s also thanks to the strength of our squad. It’s easy to fit into our squad because we are a young and ambitious group of players.

“The players that have arrived are important, young and eager to learn. They’ve been at the coach and team’s disposal since day one to learn this new methodology which can be a bit tricky to learn.

“Right from the start It was evident that the new players were able to read our game and are talented, and they gave us a hand right from the start, which matters the most.”

Calabria also spoke about Pulisic’s start to life at Milan, given that he has really hit the ground running with two goals in his first two games in Serie A.

“We are talking about a player who was in top form on the world stage just a few months ago. His form dropped in recent months but he is a great player who has already shown what he’s capable of.

“This is the best environment for him – the squad, the fans and this stadium – in order to steal the limelight again. These recent games have shown he is adapting very well.”

Calabria concluded his interview by speaking about the team’s physical state after 180 minutes (plus added time) of action under their belts.

“It’s always tricky to decipher a team’s condition at the start of the season, even the heat doesn’t help, but we prepared in the best way possible for the start of this season.

“Our man mission was to take home six points in these two games, and we are satisfied about our physical resistance. We are working hard and must continue to do so.”

  1. Some were concerned our signings would not adapt quickly. Sure, some are not quite there yet (Chukwueze and Okafor), but it seems the others are adapting nearly right away. Pulisic, RLC and Reijnders simply bolted into the saloon and took command.

I’m sure the others will get up to speed soon too. Musah had a few good moves in midfield and showed some signs of getting up to speed.

    1. Yeah, that shows the benefit of joining the team earlier in the transfer window.

Pulisic RLC and Reijnders joined us on early July and joined all of USA tour. Chukwu and Okafor didn’t.

It’s a good thing we get our targets for main team early. And that give us leverage to negotiate better deal for other players.

  2. The problem of Acmilan is just little return to our formation 4-2-3-1 put pulisic at No 10 chukwueze or Romero then leao from the other wing you can see that leao is no longer dangerous the way he was last season and Pioli doesn’t fill that there is an issue to be resolved we need double pivot Krunic, rejnder then sub musah can slot for pulisic to make the team to be more effective

      1. The reason is because right now, we played more collective football and not depend solely on the left side. Midfield dynamism and ball transition is getting better. After all, its only just two games. Fella’s just warming up the engine there
