Calabria: “I grew up wearing this shirt, for me it is a pleasure and an honour” – video

AC Milan defender Davide Calabria has revealed his delight at finally signing an extended contract until 2025.

A statement on the club’s official website reads that Milan have extended the full-back’s contract until June 30th 2025, with his previous deal set to expire in 2022. The 24-year-old has been with the Rossoneri since the age of 10 and made his Serie A debut all the way back in May 2015.

Calabria spoke to Milan TV after penning his new contract, with his comments transcribed by MilanNews and translated below.

“For me it’s my second skin, my second family. I grew up here, I’ve been here for 15 years, I experienced many emotions as a kid and now in the first team. I’m happy to be able to continue this journey together,” he said.

On the renewal: “It is exciting to continue this journey together because I grew up wearing this shirt, for me it is a pleasure and an honour to be part of this family. Both I and the club are happy with this renewal, we have found an agreement and we couldn’t wait to make it public. We are all satisfied.”

On his growth: “I have matured a lot, I have more responsibility now. It is an important growth path, I am happy with what we have done and the results obtained in recent months.”

On the last period: “We have experienced a strange period due to the pandemic, but perhaps this has united us even more and we have brought back all our desire to show the fans what we could do. We have achieved our goal now. we must reconfirm.”

On the Youth League: “It is always nice for a young player to travel around Europe and face other big clubs. It is a competition that I have wonderful memories of, it was an experience that served me a lot. I can’t wait.”

On playing in the Champions League: “It will be a great emotion, it was my goal and now I can’t wait to play it at San Siro, hoping to do it in front of the fans.”

On the fans: “They gave us great support and a great boost especially in difficult moments towards the end of the championship. It was great to see their enthusiasm and that warmth doesn’t happen in all clubs. We can’t wait to see them at San Siro.”

On the future: “I expect a good future, with great goals. We must have a great desire to demonstrate our qualities on the pitch, we must start as well as the year and finish the season even better.”

On the national team: “I wish the team good luck because they did great things. They are a beautiful group, I saw it when I was with them. They deserve to win.”
