Calabria reveals he has ‘high ambitions’ and explains his growth process at Milan – video

AC Milan defender Davide Calabria revealed his belief that he is in the ‘prime of his career’ and spoke about the path he has travelled to get to this point.

Calabria is one of the players who has very much been Milan for a long time given he was born in Lombardy and he came through the Rossoneri’s youth sector, and he spoke during the latest On The Road video filmed in collaboration with club partner BMW.

“I have a good relationship with the city of Milan, I really like the city. I am originally from Brescia, but I was bought by Milan. It is a city that offers a lot. It is beautiful: apart from the services and management, it remains small and it is also comfortable to live in. People are always open, there are many tourists and they are all pampered. You always live very well,” he said (via MilanNews).

“I’m at the height of my career. I have an age where the next few years will be the most important, most decisive, most in the prime of my career, even if it’s all quite personal. I have high ambitions and expectations, both for me and for Milan: we deserve to go back to the levels we are used to.”

On the first match he attended at San Siro: “I’m pretty sure it was Milan-Lille in the Champions League. I didn’t go there much, but because I played in the youth sector. I was in the green section, those were cheaper.. I didn’t even think about playing it as a footballer; I started thinking about it when I was 15-16 years old.”

On his first role: “I was a midfielder, but more for intelligence than anything else… We played at 7 and I was a midfielder. I arrived at Milan as a midfielder, then I played the mezzala in a three-man midfield in the youth sector and then, with Inzaghi’s group, I played as left-back for a year. It was very important and I had done very well on the left, so the following year he moved me to the right and here I am.”

On his debut with Milan: “I lived it well, beautiful moment but it’s not my best. It’s the year later, when I was in the balance between going on loan or staying, I played 2-3 games and Mihajlovic told me ‘I liked you, you have to stay here’. I was 18, if Mihajlovic tells you something it’s the right way.”

On respect for the environment: “I care. The little things that can help to pollute less must be done. Separate collection is also very important, as is, for example, turning off the water when washing. They are small details , but if we all did it…

“At Milanello we are all very polite about this thing: we try to waste as little as possible. We should teach it in schools, as well as respect education. We must grow up with certain right concepts.

“Football is moving from this point of view; we would like to do even more, also because things happen that I consider absurd. We have the power to influence people: it is important to give certain messages.”
