AC Milan defender Davide Calabria has revealed that a change in mentality is mostly behind his change in form over the past year and a half.
Calabria spoke to Milan TV after last night’s 4-1win over Cagliari about the emotion of playing in front of fans again and what makes the current group of players special, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.
“Very beautiful. The empathy that has been created with the fans, the positive moment that has been going on for months… It was wonderful to see them all cheering together,” he said.
“The secret? We have been working together for many months, we feel good off the pitch. The extra run-up in a match changes your life and leads you to have the result. I’m very happy with what the team is doing.
“At these levels I think it is essential that there are not only 11 starters but 20, especially at Milan and in a tough league like this one. We must all be on the alert, even 5 minutes can make a difference. Those who enter can do even better because they are cooler.”
Calabria was also asked what the difference is between the player he was 18 months ago compared to now, given his huge increase in consistency and level of performances.
“I changed my mentality, I did a job on myself and the results are showing. I have someone who helps me, I am open to everything. Now I enjoy it, in the end it’s football. I changed my thinking. The team has turned, we were coming from difficult years. The fans are now on our side, we are doing well and we must continue to work like this, first and foremost me.”
