Calabria reveals what Pioli changed and praises team effort: “We came here to win”

By Isak Möller -

Once again, Davide Calabria was decisive in an away clash against Roma. He didn’t get on the scoresheet like in the 2017/18 season, but he did win the penalty for Milan that Franck Kessie safely converted.

The Rossoneri certainly needed the win tonight after what has been a tough couple of weeks, and they luckily got the job done. In the first half, they played great football and they eventually took the lead as well.

Albeit a bit slower in the last 45 minutes, it was still Milan’s best performance in a long time and Calabria did well in both phases of the game. Speaking to MilanTV, as cited by MilanNews, he shared his thoughts on the crucial win.

A nice way of responding to the latest performances…

“We came here to win, we got off to a strong start. We played a great match, I’m happy.”

On the game…

“The coach left us perhaps even a bit freer, more carefree in our playing. Being young and having this lightheartedness, everyone sacrifices himself for the team and this can be seen on the pitch.”

On the challenge with Spinazzola…

“Always good games against him, he’s really strong. A beautiful match, an Italian against an Italian. Always nice to face him, I’m happy with my game. The important thing was to win.”

What do you bring home from this victory?

“The attitude. With this intensity, we can get more satisfaction.”

The next game will take place on Wednesday, as Udinese will visit the San Siro. After tonight’s showing, Stefano Pioli’s men will be keen to collect another three points, although there might be some injury concerns.
