Calabria expects to do ‘very well’ under Fonseca and praises Milan Futuro project

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan captain Davide Calabria is sure that the team will do ‘very well’ under Paulo Fonseca, and he also believes that the Milan Futuro project could be a real success.

Fonseca’s arrival as head coach was confirmed a few weeks ago but given everyone was on their holidays the first introductions took some time in coming. He will find no new signings on day one, while a lot of the big names are missing too due to international commitments.

Nonetheless, the squad were all smiles as they arrived at the training complex to begin what is a very important period of preparations for a 2024-25 season. The first preseason friendly is on 20 July against Rapid Wien, then the squad leave for a tour of the United States.

Calabria spoke to Milan TV just before the first session of preseason got underway, and his comments were relayed by MilanNews.

“It’s always nice to meet up with team-mates again but also with new young guys who join us. We’re also waiting for those who are currently playing in the European Championship and who have just finished. It’s always very exciting,” he said.

“Fonseca? Changing coach is part of this game. We can’t wait to meet him: we said hello before with the staff and everyone. Little by little we’ll get to know him better and we’ll give our best. I’m sure we’ll do very well.

“Milan Futuro? I think it’s a positive thing and it was something that had to be done. I think it will be very useful for the boys because the leap from the Primavera to the first team is quite important: few can do it.”

Milan’s preseason tour is once again to the USA, where they will play Manchester City in New York on Saturday 27 July, Barcelona in Chicago three days later and then Real Madrid in Baltimore on Tuesday 6 August.
