Tuttosport: Caldara’s return and Bremer move – Maldini evaluating strategy for the defence

By Oliver Fisher -

The Milan management are studying the strategy they should take in covering for the absence of Simon Kjaer, according to a report.

Tuttosport (via MilanNews) writes that Paolo Maldini and Ricky considering whether to sign another central defender in January or whether to wait until the end of the season, adapting Pierre Kalulu as a fourth option for the centre-back department.

It is clear that playing for the rest of the season with only three natural centre-backs (Tomori, Romagnoli and Gabbia) would be rather complicated but at the same time the management are working with limited resources so large investments cannot be made.

That is why the first concrete hypothesis could be to bring Mattia Caldara back to the club, terminating his loan at Venezia early, something which would not involve an economic outlay for the Rossoneri. However, an agreement must be found with the Venetian club and they are likely to oppose it.

Then, the Rossoneri are also following Gleison Bremer of Torino, who has a deal expiring in 2023. However, it is difficult to imagine they will let the 24-year-old go in January, so he is more a target for the summer.
