Caldara’s agent reveals why he wanted Atalanta move; responds to question of Milan return

By Oliver Fisher -

The agent of Milan-owned defender Mattia Caldara has insisted his client is only thinking about Atalanta for the time being.

After a spell with the Rossoneri plagued by injuries, Caldara moved back to Atalanta last month as Milan agreed to part ways with the defender.

In total, the defender only made two appearances for the club during the one and a half years he spent there. Of course, this is the result of his major injury struggles, which kept him on the sidelines for 44 games.

The player’s father has hit out at Milan in the media, but it is believed that Caldara also had some issues off the pitch that had an effect on Milan’s decision to sell him, as we exclusively revealed.

Now his agent Giuseppe Riso has spoken to Radio Sportiva about his client’s move and what the future might hold, as he is technically only on an 18-month loan albeit with an option to buy inserted, as per most outlets.

Riso spoke after Atalanta thrashed Valencia 4-1 in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie, a game which Caldara started and looked solid in. His words were transcribed by MilanNews.it.

“It great satisfaction to see him smile and with the desire to demonstrate his true value. He showed great security, I liked his performance very much,” he said.

“He is going through a good moment, but still he is not 100%. That is normal after such a long stop, but we are at a good point. He needed to go back to his family, where they know him well for his technical characteristics, but above all human.

“I think it was the right choice to go back to Bergamo. Is it possible to return to Milan in the future? For now we have to talk about Atalanta, it’s still too early to talk about other situations. He only has Atalanta in his mind.”
