Calhanoglu criticised by Italian media after disappointing return from start

Hakan Calhanoglu, who came off the bench in the 4-0 win against Crotone and grabbed two assists, failed to replicate that performance last night. In the 2-0 defeat to Spezia, he was subpar.

The No.10 recently recovered from COVID-19 and you could see that the fitness perhaps wasn’t quite there. However, he also failed to do things he normally does so easily, such as controlling the ball and providing good passes.

In our ratings, he got a 4/10 as he made too many errors and was barely in the game, so it seemed. As compiled by MilanNews, the Italian newspapers didn’t give him much praise either, with Tuttosport giving him a 5 because ‘he couldn’t create anything’.

Gazzetta Dello Sport stated that the Turkish international was ‘always out of position and out of time’ and gave him a 4.5. Corriere Dello Sport gave just 4 as it was a display ‘without brilliance, without polish, without ideas’.

Not good ratings for Calhanoglu, but then again, that can be said for most of the players after yesterday’s outing. From a player like Hakan, though, you would expect a lot more.
