Calhanoglu recalls feeling of winning the Scudetto against Milan: “A gift from god”

By Oliver Fisher -

Hakan Calhanoglu has been a key part of Inter’s Scudetto-winning campaign and he described the derby victory over AC Milan to clinch the title as a gift from god.

Milan lost 2-1 against Inter in the derby at San Siro last month, which meant that they won their 20th league title in the process. The damage was done with goals from the ex-Rossoneri defender Francesco Acerbi and the striker Marcus Thuram, who was believed to be close to joining Milan.

Fikayo Tomori’s late finish from close range halved the deficit but in truth Milan got what they deserved after another very questionable defensive performance, and after the game they had to watch their rivals celebrate.

As Radio Rossonera relay, Calhanoglu spoke to DAZN after the game and they recalled that he had always behaved in a professional manner despite the provocations at times from Milan.

“Thank you very much. Those who don’t know me don’t know what I’m like, I’m always calm and I always show respect. You never change, in friendship there are no colours,” he said.

“I also have a relationship with some Milan players and I have respect for them, if nothing comes from them it’s not a problem, it’s a closed page. I’m happy to be at Inter.”

The Turk was also interviewed by Inter TV and he was asked what his favourite moment of the season was, giving an answer with certainty.

“Definitely the match we won against Milan, we beat them away from home. I am a person who always believes, so I believe that it is a gift from god to have won the Scudetto in that match.”

  1. Even for the snake that he is, it shows what a difference a good coach can make to a player mentally and tactically. Both him and Barella were untouchable in midfield this season.

    1. But when Newcastle came for Barella, they did not want to even hear about selling him. So they came knocking across the street, knowing damn well everyone is for sale here.

      1. Remember the final decision is always the players. Similar to the situation for Milinkovic-Savic, Igle Tare, Lazio Director confirmed we made a 70m offer and he chose Saudi. Also Sandro would’ve been of no use to us seeing as he’s serving a ban and was caught betting again. In both Hakan and Kessie’s cases we offered the same amount of money but they left anyway. Reijnders had an offer from Barcelona and he chose Milan, Barcelona actually offered more. The choice always remains with the player. If the player isn’t interested then there isn’t much you can do. Remember when Chelsea and Manchester United offered Maldini crazy money? Or when “a London club” offered Henry 4x his salary? They chose to stay, instead Henry opted for Barcelona.

  2. Wow! Hakan is almost ordinary till he goes to inter and plays under a coach with real tactics and the guy is now a lynchpin in the inter midfield. All I’m trying to say is that even KdB will be almost useless in this system that we play. You think he’s got good passing stats because the Man City players just stand in one place staring at the ball?
The point is that there’s people who are so happy to see Ben go and are actually hoping for it but I think Ben in the Inter midfield will be just too spectacular. It’s not rocket science. With your SOS formation you’ve got 5 bystanders just watching the ball and doing absolutely nothing. What is a Ben supposed to do with that? It’s same way not many liked Kessie when he was playing further up the pitch but suddenly he’s something great in a position that brings out the best in Him. I’m a huge Ben fan and I think it’s imprudent to want to sell him without actually seeing him play in a real system with clear instructions.

Before you hurl insults remember that every Milan fan is entitled to their opinion 🙂🙏🏾

  3. Am i the only one who has noticed that there isnt much friendship in the air when our players has to shake his hand when we have met over the years, Maybe im projecting something but to me it seems clear what our players thinks of him.

  4. I don’t understand why do we need to post his words in a Milan news site. If there are opponents saying Milan crap or whatever, they can get posted on the Inter site.

He wanted to go, he’s a good player but good riddance. For all his talk of how Milan is a closed chapter, and to show respect…. he keeps talking about us…

What next, are we going to put also comments from Dimarco or Lautaro.
