Milan will be left kicking themselves after what happened at the Stadio Ennior Tardini. Alexis Saelemaekers opened the scoring with a lovely precision shot from 20 yards, then Rafael Leao tucked away a penalty that the Belgian won to make it 2-0.
Adrian Bernabe’s goal just before the break lit the fuse, and the hosts them levelled through Enrico Delprato in the second half. Milan missed huge chances to win it – including Christian Pulisic and Saelemaekers one-on-ones – and had to settle for a draw.
The result means that the Rossoneri failed to go temporarily top, and it continues a worrying trend against struggling sides. Milan’s record since the start of October is two wins (versus Fiorentina and Roma) and four draws (the others against Juventus, Pisa and Atalanta), to leave them in third.
After the international break comes the big one: the first Derby della Madonnina against Inter, who are currently top on goal difference. While waiting for that derby, you can check out the latest best online sportsbooks over the international break.
Not Scudetto-worthy
During his usual weekly column for Il Giornale, Franco Ordine published a piece that is certainly not very positive about Milan’s chances of going for the title.
“Milan, the harsh truth: they are not equipped to participate in the Scudetto race. Inexperience, naivety, an inadequate squad and a lack of character: a winning club is not like that,” he said.
In supporting his testimony, the journalist wanted to highlight and reflect on the individual errors that are costing the team points: “Estupinan’s naivety towards the end of the first half to get the first response.”
He added: “If you then turn the spotlight on Fofana, it’s easy to sum up his performances as equally dissatisfying. Finally, a third sub-par outing from Christopher Nkunku: “After an hour of play, he made way for Loftus Cheek with zero regrets, a sign of a very modest contribution to the cause.”
In an interview with VideoGamer, legendary midfielder Ruud Gullit spoke about the Rossoneri’s new direction under Massimiliano Allegri and whether they are in the Scudetto race.
“I don’t know if they can do it. There are many teams that aren’t at their best right now. Inter have done very well in recent years. Juventus are also struggling. And the same goes for Roma: there are several teams in difficulty. Napoli have done well, but recently lost in Holland against PSV.
“It’s a bit of a strange period in Italy. However, I think Italian teams still know how to play good football. As for Milan, furthermore, there are new people in charge, and that doesn’t help. They will have different ideas about the players, so it’s still a project. Maybe we’ll have to wait a bit to see what happens.”
