Christian Pulisic has admitted that he ‘has to do better’ after the United States were beaten by Belgium, but he wasn’t happy with the kit clash.

The United States hosted Alexis Saelemaekers’ and Koni De Winter’s national team for a friendly in view of the World Cup in the summer, but after taking a first-half lead they found themselves completely outmatched, eventually losing 5-2.

One of the major talking points to come from the game though was how similar the shirts of the two teams were, leading to a bit of confusion on the TV broadcast, in the stands and as it turns out on the pitch too.

After the game, Pulisic spoke to ESPN (via MilanNews) to give his thoughts on what was a frustrating night in terms of the performance and result. It also marked another game without a goal for him on a personal level.

What was the kit clash like out there?

“It’s not an excuse at all because both teams deal with that, but that’s just … that can’t happen. That was a bit strange.

“It’s difficult. A lot of times you get the ball and you look up, you can’t really lock in on something. You only can base it off the color of the shirt. That’s how it works. And when it’s very similar, it’s difficult. Everyone was a bit shocked.”

The result wasn’t as planned either…

“Of course, I’m disappointed. I have to convert my chances. They’re not easy opportunities, but at certain times I expect to do better, without a doubt. We have to beat teams like this if we want to have a chance of going far at the World Cup.”

The USA will play another game in the current break against Atlanta, against Portugal on Tuesday. That will be the final game for head coach Mauricio Pochettino ahead of the home tournament in the summer.
