Capello agrees with Fonseca’s criticism of players: “Milan never fought”

Fabio Capello believes that Paulo Fonseca was right to call out a lack of effort from his AC Milan side following their win over Red Star.

The statements that Fonseca made after the game have generated plenty of headlines because – despite a victory that came late in the game thanks to Tammy Abraham – he decided to question whether everyone is trying their hardest.

Qualifying directly for the round of 16 without going through the play-offs would be a big success, no matter how it comes. However, to go any further than that there simply has to be improvements in the performance levels compared to last night as Red Star caused a lot of difficulties.

Capello was in the Sky studio last night covering the game and after the full-time whistle he gave his reaction to Fonseca’s comments about the lack of effort.

“Milan never fought tonight and Fonseca’s words are clear, you can’t play like this with the defence back and no one going to help them,” he said (via MilanPress).

“It’s better for the players to talk less and they need to erase this performance. The players must be careful and do something more. The fans are on Fonseca’s side.”

  1. At this point. It’s is the right thing to do.
Even Capello agrees. No going indoors to shout. Let them. Know how the anger boils. It’s not throwing them. Under the bus if it’s true.

Milan has become like man u. The way its players have this superiority complex to some games and teams. Like they automatically deserve the 3 points.

Call them out, outdoors. It’s not. Like everyone can’t see the breakdown that Milan has been for seasons on end now…

  2. Making this comments, he sets himself into trouble down the road. Keep you eyes open and watch.

Fans are not on his side. Also, if Milan never fought, you think he can win this game with the second goal?! in which Camarda contributed.. haha

    1. Some fans are not on his side, and most fans probably didn’t want him appointed.

But what he said last night was the truth. Even professionals agree. Thiaw came out in another interview and agreed with what Fonseca said. Effort levels of this team DESERVE to be called out. They are nowhere near what we know this team is capable of.

  3. Theo is an absolute embarrassment this season – terrible attitude .. bad performances.. misusing captaincy to take all set pieces (he’s terrible at them).

His head and heart not with our club anymore. Him leaving in Jan for good money is best for both parties tbh

  4. Learn from atalanta players. No wasting time and fight till the end. I think milan have to calling back Kjaer, the defender and on the pitch they need a leader.

If leao wants to more seriously please, he will became like lookman. The positioning and his shoot, woww…

  5. Acmilan players must learn how to attack with great intensity, be fearless and Acmilan must not allowed opponent to dominate us it’s risky is better Acmilan dominate the opponent by their pressing ability and our attacking midfield should be Reijnder because he has the quality the quality is that he can score he can create space for the wingers and can dribble Loftus cheek doesn’t have that characteristics and Acmilan should bring Traore to support Reijnder then liberali to support chukwueze then we bring Jimenez to replace Emerson, musah should support Fofana for double pivot until benercer recovers with fitness.
