Capello believes Camarda is not ready for the ‘triple jump’: “Milan need good Italians”

By Ben Dixon -

Francesco Camarda is seen as the next big thing for AC Milan and the Italian National Team, but across the board, there must be patience, given the striker is still only 16.

In recent memory, few footballers, let alone Italian footballers have been spoken of in the way that Camarda is being spoken about. The 16-year-old is among the most exciting teenagers in football currently, and he has not transitioned into senior football.

Perhaps, he could make that step, but the idea from Milan is that he will feature – being the first keyword – when he is ready – that being the second keyword. Whilst hopes are high, they will only become true if the pressure is minimal, and the timing is right.

Nowadays, seeing young teenagers appearing for senior teams is becoming more common, and Camarda already has an appearance in Serie A. This season there could be more opportunities, but this will only be if he is ready, and Paulo Fonseca and the management decide the time is right.

Fabio Capello offered his verdict on the matter when speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, and his words have been relayed by Radio Rossonera.

“Camarda needs more time. It’s not like he can make the triple jump, i.e. from Serie C to the national team. In the meantime, I hope he does well with Milan Futuro and then in Milan, which also needs good Italians. Young people must be allowed to mature slowly.”

    1. Tell me which 15 or 16 year old players Inter has given a debut recently or even promoted to the first team ? There might be one but I surely cant think of one but I don’t watch inter matches often either. What I do remember though is that they sold Casadei to Chelsea.

  1. Yes Milan need good italians. Like Tonali, Romangioli, Buonaventura, El shaarawy and the list goes on and on. But the experts that destroyed Milan and are still destroying Milan, decided to sell them. They all play or played for the national team but they were not good for Milan lol!! And like Scamacca, Zaniolo, Chiesa and the list goes on. But the experts decided not to buy them.

  2. No, seeing young teenagers featuring for senior teams is NOT becoming more common. There are a few exceptions like Yamal, but that’s a one-in-a-generation case; the operative word is “exceptions.”

See Endrick at Real Madrid: he was hired but he is not playing. And he is more ready than Camarda is, having played several times for Brazil’s senior national team, something Camarda is not any close to doing for the senior Azzurri.

Camarda doesn’t have the proper muscle development yet. He can’t play against center backs who have twice his muscle mass. He’ll just be bumped to the ground.

There is a segment of the fan base that is in love with the idea that the youngsters should be given time with the first team. No, they should not. They can have some cameos, but they are best left with Primavera or Milan Futuro, for now. Let’s allow them to develop properly, lest we will ruin them.

  3. Ben Dixon, why are your articles so long, verbose, & full of irrelevant paragraphs? What’s the point in 75% of your article here? Just spit it out, mate.
Know your audience – readers just want the gist of it & the facts. I just want to know what Capello said – nothing of below provides context. Fans on this website read most articles & don’t need that much context anyways
