Capello explains why Milan’s management of Leao is ‘fundamental’: “He makes me angry”

Former AC Milan boss Fabio Capello believes that Rafael Leao has what it takes to become one of the world’s best wingers if he can

Heading into his third season at the club now the feeling is that Leao must begin to show signs of consistency in his game. Despite being just 22 years of age he has shown an explosive amount of potential in both of his first two full seasons, but only in glimpses with the general consensus being that more consistency is needed.

So far in the current campaign Leao has racked up three goals and one assist in the league plus a goal and an assist in the Champions Leao, and he was one of the few encouraging players in a bad first half last night.

Capella spoke to Sky Italia about Leao at the end of the game between Milan and Porto last night which ended 1-0 in favour of the Portuguese side, with his comments relayed by MilanLive.

“His management becomes fundamental for this Milan. Leao has enormous potential, has the qualities of a great player and an excellent vision of the game,” he said.

“He almost seems to be underestimated. He puts the ball in places unthinkable for a normal footballer. He could easily become a crack in world football, but he is the first to have to convince himself of this. He makes me angry, because sometimes he is a joker.”
