The Derby della Madonnina has provided AC Milan with an opportunity to restart their season, and the performance against Inter showed signs of a team that wanted to restart. Fabio Capello has stated that whilst the result was good, its value will be lessened if there are no signs of balance against Lecce.

Milan’s victory in the derby has shown that there are foundations in place for success under Fonesca’s reign, but if the signs are not shown against Lecce tomorrow night, then its impact will be diminished.

In an editorial piece for Gazzetta dello Sport, Capello suggested that the second half of the derby showed the Rossoneri which the Portuguese head coach expects. Nevertheless, the game against Lecce could now be a bigger challenge, because there is a very high standard set now against, with respect, a better opponent.

With this in mind, the former coach also suggests that Fonseca should continue with the same eleven, making changes throughout the game rather than making rotational changes ahead of the Champions League to allow the team to continue to harmonise.

Finally, he suggested that the two-striker system offers conviction, given the profiles of both allow success in both phases of the game. Certainly positive signs, but they must be built on now, against a Lecce team who ‘on paper will be an easy commitment’ but will be a test to see if Milan have found ‘balance and harmony’.
