Capello sends clear message to Fonseca: “I would be happy to face Milan”

It was a disappointing evening for AC Milan at Stadio Ennio Tardini last night as Parma prevailed by two goals to one. Given the performance of the Rossoneri, criticised by Fabio Capello, the home side certainly deserved to win.

Parma opened the scoring after just two minutes on the clock and from there, they took clear control of the game and dominated Milan during large parts of it. Paulo Fonseca’s side never recovered despite the equaliser and now find themselves in a very dire situation.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport this morning, Fabio Capello shared his thoughts on the poor performance and even stated that ‘seeing Milan like this had an effect on me’. In his opinion, the Rossoneri are lacking the most important thing of them all: balance.

On the situation…

“Milan’s problems are much deeper than a defeat and can be translated into one word: balance. Fonseca’s team doesn’t have it, they are scattered on the pitch, three here and four there, as the Portuguese coach himself said after the match. You won’t get anywhere like this.”

Is the issue more of a tactical than a psychological one?

“I would say so. Fonseca talked about recovering the ball high up, but to do that you have to move as a team, with synchronicity, organization and rhythm yesterday’s Milan was very far from having. Let’s be clear, it seemed like last year’s team, with its defects, 6-7 players above the line of the ball, but then when you lose it? It’s trouble… In fact, at this moment, if I were an opponent I would be happy to face Milan.”

Even with the arrival of Emerson Royal and Fofana, was there anything different seen?

“Here, this is the thing that surprised me the most negatively. Milan didn’t change even with the substitutions and continued to suffer counter-attacks in wide spaces. In fact, to tell the truth, Parma did more damage precisely in the area occupied by Emerson Royal. Confirming that it’s not a problem of men, but of the whole team.”

Lazio are up next and as the game will be played at Stadio Olimpico, it will be a very difficult game for the Rossoneri. A complete turnaround will be needed compared to yesterday’s game and truth be told, that seems far-fetched at the moment.

  1. A poorly constructed team is what this is. Really really poorly constructed team.

I wonder if they fail to achieve their goals this season, will Furlani, Moncada, D’ottavio and Ibra pay with their heads like the previous management did?

    1. The hypocrites will ignore your comment. Previous management won the league with minimal resources. Yet these new bums are being defended.

      1. It would indeed be hypocritical should these people remain in charge if the goals are not achieved. Previous management even surpassed the goals but were sacked anyway.

      2. The truth is that management was and is juvenile. The saying goes, you can’t buy experience Ibra and Co.
Fonsca should have stayed where he was and Ibra should have hired De Zerbi instead.
Now the show gets very interesting with Fonzi and the so called management. Is Cardi smiling, I know Maldini and Massari are!

        1. There’s no need for this last part of your comment.
The fact that Maldini and massara were sacked doesn’t mean you use them as a reference point.
Clubs do change leadership and ours is no exception.
Let’s hope that things change for the better because we our MILAN BECAUSE OF OUR LOVE FOR THE CLUB NOT FOR ANY INDIVIDUAL PEOPLE.
          FORZA MILAN ❤️

  2. I cringe when management and Fonseca keeps saying “we want to dominate with the ball and play high” The arrogance oozing from them. Just say we want to win

  3. I am very disappointed with the game. Lack of effectiveness in attack and very fragile both full backs in defense. Even if this was against Inter it could be 7-0

  4. It seems that the Scudetto race will be between Inter and Juve this season. Milan needed a good mercato to close the gap with Inter, and instead the management chose to do a cheap mercato.

    1. It baffles me that they beloved fans of this club will their comments and it won’t be seen, but this wannabe will always come drop nonsense here indirectly mocking Milan when go south and his comment appears with hassles.

  5. We’ve got no leader at our backline. We also lack the experience kjaer did provide an integral part of organizing or backline.
Leao needs to stop starting our games. He’s practically out of form. Does more harm to the team now. So poor with his shots in a very good strikers position.

    1. Yes but even bad Leao is better than any other winger. Milan had how many chances and how many Leao created? Try being realistic, why is Pulisic starting if Leao isn’t? What did he do but a tap in from Leao created action?

      1. I disagree with you there. If you had watched our preseason without Leao you will understand that a poor Leao has no substitute. Salameakers is better suited in that position while we wait for Leao to gain fitness and his act back. You can’t keep defending Leao even with his talent he needs to work hard with the team and not as an individual

        1. If Leao good like you all talk,he will not be here.He never be great, same like Balotteli and that is. He dont have something like all great players have

  6. A really cheap marcato… I can only laugh at the management and the scouting crew. Like other clubs scouting are more effective than ours

  7. Acmilan should stop using Loftus cheek as first eleven with tomori this two player are killing our offensive play now we need Gabbia and Pavlovic then we need benercer and rejnder in the double pivot then we need liberali or Chaka Traore or pulisic what Acmilan are lacking is the offensive phase since Brahim Diaz left us we have been having series of issues from all ends.
    M.maignan
    E.royal, Gabbia, Pavlovic, Hernandez
    Benercer, rejnder
    Chukwueze, liberali/pulisic,leao
    Okafor
And Acmilan should be more offensive in moving the ball and also applying deep pressing our problem is the No 10 I can bet you 100%

    1. We don’t have the players to play 4231. 433 is the formation we should be playing. Also, the problem is at the top.

Furlani, Moncada and Ibra are inexperienced and they don’t know how to construct a winning team.

Inter best signing was Marotta. They didn’t try to reinvent the wheel like Milan.

At Milan we are too nostalgic hiring past players with no experience. Maldini had no experience as director and should have never been hired for such an important role.

The same goes for Ibra. The first thing Milan management need to do to fix this problem is to hire EXPERIENCED people for these jobs.

We need an experienced sporting director in charge of transfers and we need an experience CEO. Therefore, get rid of Furlani, D’Octavio, Moncada and Ibra.

Then hire a coach with a WINNING mentality. This means no more Pioli type coach and no more Fonseca.

Players like Reuben Loftus Cheek and Musah should have been sold this summer if the plan was to play 4231. If we don’t sell them then it makes sense to play 433.

We need to sign players who are competent for the position we need to fill instead of forcing players to play in a different position.

RLC is not an attacking midfielder and he is not a defensive midfielder. Therefore he can only play as a number 8 which is a box to box midfielder in a 433 formation. Same with Musah. But I don’t understand why we signed Musah because to be honest he’s not good enough to improve the quality of the team.

This is why we need an EXPERIENCED Sporting Director in charge of transfers and an EXPERIENCED General Manager to build a winning team.

There’s too much incompetence at Milan and it starts at the top.

      1. I do agree on the director of sport issue. We do need on with a better vision and experience. Someone that can tie it all together.

As to the coach with a winning mentality, I don’t know. Look at how Conte is doing. The coach has to be tactically flexible and a right fit for the club.

We know Fonseca wasn’t the best option but here we are.

      2. Good observation man. Added to what u have said, I will sell 80% of current Milan squad to make space for Milan u23 players. Those lads play as a team and are more aggressive.
We need a coach that can trust young players.
Musah, RLC, Tijani & Adli are all box to box midfielders been used to execute double pivote. I obviously don’t know how that will work though.
And the idea of selling young promising Italian players to hire foreign mediocres should be stopped

  8. Capello was critical of Milan last seasons but he is now making of how they played. Incredible, 2 games into Serie A and Milan is the main point of ridicule…And rightly so, Parma and Torino. Can’t wait for Inter.

  9. Selling kalulu who is an experienced player was an error. He would have filled up the right wing with his experience. Here we’re having issues

    1. They’re retired you buffoon. Tho I’d take Capello in a heartbeat. He’d iron these bums out or froze them out of the team.

      1. Yea that is what I mean, I take Capello too, but I don’t Like how everyone are inteligent and know what need to do, and in same time they don’t train a club at least 20 years, in case of Sacchi more then 30 years

  10. Seems like all the Redbird Lovers are suddenly silent on this post. We have been saying what Capello just confirmed. No balance to this team; no tactics; and an average market. When we say it – criticizing management/ownership – they call us not true fans and tell us to go support Inter lol

So let’s see if any of them are foolish enough to disagree with Capello. I think not.

      1. And there it is…

The Redbird Lover himself cannot make a reasonable rebuttal to the comment so he attempts to make a feeble personal attack – shocking – like I would actually give a $h*t what a complete stranger who I never have met and never will meet – thinks of me LMAO!! Could have set my watch to this one. I bet you have a poster of Cardinale hung in your room that you beat off too. Go back to bed kid. The grown up’s are talking
