Fabio Capello has commented once again on AC Milan’s elimination from the Champions League, and what the struggles of Serie A clubs in Europe means.

Milan’s European journey came to an end on Tuesday night in a rather shocking fashion as they drew 1-1 with Feyenoord at San Siro, which meant that they lost 2-1 on aggregate.

However, it wasn’t the only bit of disappointment related to Italian clubs. Atalanta were hammered by Club Brugge and exited, while Juventus went out to PSV Eindhoven after an extra-time goal.

After some positive seasons when the likes of Milan, Inter, Atalanta, Roma and Napoli went deep in European competitions, there is a real risk of losing out on that fifth Champions League spot.

Capello gave an interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport in which he commented on what has been a very difficult week for Italian sides in the top club competition, with his thoughts relayed by MilanPress.

“We have had proof that our Serie A suffers from the high pace of European football. From this point of view, our league seems to have taken a step back, after having grown in 2023-24,” he said.

“Ibrahimovic was right, the Rossoneri committed suicide with that madness of Theo Hernandez. But allow me to add that even when numerically inferior, the match could have been read better by Conceicao. I, for example, would never have taken out the centre-forward Gimenez.”

  1. I’m sorry but criticism of the coach he should know better 😧

As for the league this has been coming for a long time constantly selling top talent as soon as the powers that be from abroad snap their fingers due to owners betrayal and greed using FFP OR HOME ECONOMIC as an excuse.

NO top coaching No top sporting directors No top sporting science or direction that’s the issue in Italy.

Critics of the coach are doing EXACTLY WHAT THE OWNERS WANT AND NOT JUST MILANS MANAGEMENT ALSO.

The big warning signs with regards to Italian football is this season UK TNT COVERAGE which has been cut dramatically from previous years also the production and the propaganda from certain individuals with regards the league as well as Ac milan.

Ancient history that is what was said of Milan during the week and some would agree and also say the same with regards the league.

AND THAT’S JUST WHAT THEY WANT😤

    1. Sorry, this is all on the couch. The preference of Felix (no matter what) is disrespectful to the Milan club and its players. Also, there must be some goals set. If you are Milan couch and do not reach top 4 and last 16 in CL you should be out. That’s it! You can not blame the players, because is not only Teo, but Musah got the red in Dinamo, Gabija give a goal in Dinamo, MM16 gave a goal to Feyenoord. The toxic insecure atmosphere, the impulsiveness of Concicao, the headless management. That is why we are here. Not because Theo had a bad day in the office!

      1. Yes, but remember Fonseca won 5 UCL games in a row and took Milan into the top 8. If he had Gimenez, things would be different. Reijnders, Pulisic and Fofana were excellent under Fonseca.

        1. Neither Fonseca nor Conceicao have they players they need to play their preferred systems. That’s why it was ugly and inconsistent under Fonseca, and remains so (but slightly better 4-2-1 so far) under Conceicao.

Management needs to decide on their coach and actually bring in the players for that system.

    2. Of course that’s what they say in UK, they’ve been saying it 25 years ago as well, promoting their own league. Where I am from, 90% of sports journalists were PL fanatics even 25 years ago. I think a lot of this promotion was driven by the huge rise of betting companies, most of which were and still are UK based.

The team today is filled with many egoistic individuals.
The formation 4213 has not yield results after tonali and kessie left. The defensive midfield is repeatedly exposed.
Lazy Leao doesn’t defend, prefers to walk like a striker. Milan is only playing 10.5 man with Leao.
Ambitious Theo wants to score goals, forgetting that he is a defender, leaving big defensive gaps.

The new players in this 2 years just cannot adapt to 4231. Milan just cannot find the best 11.

  3. Sorry but letting Fonseca go is probably going to prove to be a mistake in the end. for sure it will be debated for some time. Clearly he saw the issues with Theo, Leao, Tomori, etc. Mgmt backed the players not him. Now its a worse mess.

  4. At least, we put ourself in a difficult situation with Theo red card and Conceciao just started coaching Milan last month. What’s Juve’s excuse again?

  5. Honestly would love to see Capello coach today. He’d be humbled so fast. Dude treats his players like trash, tried to prevent Ben Foster from attending the birth of his child. He’s having a rebellion worse than anything Fonseca had

  6. Because of the owner of Milan fully capitalist. They sucks money and left destruction of the team. They sell all of Italian pilars of the team. Buying cheap or prospect player only to be sold. Not to build a team. Young players always struggled getting minutes
