“He’s lost desire to improve” – Capello insists Milan should find buyer for Leao ‘immediately’

Fabio Capello believes that the incoming director(s) at AC Milan should look for a buyer for Rafael Leao as their first job.

The chaos at management level will naturally have an impact on the key players in the squad at Milan, given they have absolutely no idea how things will look going into next season at the moment. One of these such names is Leao, who dropped a bombshell on Saturday night.

Leao has spent seven years at Milan since his 2019 arrival from Lille, and regardless of his inconsistencies, it doesn’t feel like good news that he openly wants out. One of the most recognisable faces of the modern Rossoneri era is ready to cut ties, and he is probably one of many.

Capello: Milan should sell Leao ‘immediately’

Capello was a guest on last night’s Calciomercato L’Originale show on Sky. After addressing the topic in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport earlier in the week, he again spoke about Leao’s want-away wishes.

“What should Milan do? Very simple. I’d look for a team that will sign him immediately. Especially because in the last two years, he hasn’t been the Leao we remembered, the one with whom Milan won the title,” he said (via MilanVibes).

“He’s lost that pace, that desire to improve. This new position as a centre-forward is probably also a hybrid that hasn’t helped him. But even when he’s been moved to the left, he no longer has the pace he once had.

“He was once unstoppable, now he can’t be as decisive. And then there’s this rumour that he wants to leave. It’s clear that someone whispered something in his ear, regarding the interests of other teams, so he’s looking for a break.”

  1. he hasn’t been the Leao we remembered, the one with whom Milan won the title,” he said (via MilanVibes)………..How can he be with Injury and been used as a stagnant 9, then when desperation arose and change of formation is needed you suddenly want him to have the pace with 10mins left, we saw the flashes against cagliari, Capello is a respected coach but lets speak the truth always, I hope Capello will use thesame energy used in criticizing Leao on others, like Allegri and other players too, the obsession with Leao is just too much

    1. Only one obsessed with Leao is you. You literally don’t comment about anybody or anything else here besides Leao.

    2. Others don’t get paid what Leao does. Rafa played up top under Pioli as well, and he gave a lot more than what he had in recent seasons, remember we had Calhanoglu out on the left at a time. Leao is rightly criticised, he has shown 0 improvement, Eto’o didn’t cry when he was used out wide by Mourinho when they won the treble, he did what was best for the team.

    3. “How can he be with Injury”

“Especially because in the last two years, he hasn’t been the Leao we remembered, the one with whom Milan won the title,” he said”

He wasn’t injured last season, now was he?

  2. I think a lot of player does that after the scudetto, with Tomori, Bennacer, Theo, even captain Maignan and Calabria. The only one who is improving is Gabbia, Saelesmaker, Diaz and Tonali.
