Capello leaves Milan out of Scudetto race but praises signing of Reijnders

By Isak Möller -

Fabio Capello has made his predictions for the upcoming Serie A season and perhaps surprisingly, he has left AC Milan out of the Scudetto race. He did, however, have positive things to say about Tijjani Reijnders.

Milan have made eight signings this summer and there’s no doubt that Stefano Pioli has some work to do this season. Nevertheless, all members of our editorial team have predicted the Rossoneri to finish third or higher this season.

Speaking about the season in this week’s edition of Sportweek, as cited by MilanPress, Fabio Capello shared his thoughts on the Scudetto race. He left Milan out of the discussion but also praised the Rossoneri for singing Tijjani Reijnders.

Favourites for the Scudetto…

“Three teams, in alphabetical order: Inter, Juventus and Napoli. Inter for the overall strength, Napoli if they keep Osimhen, Juve because they won’t have to worry about Europe.”

On Milan…

“At Milan, I really admire a player who plays vertically and not horizontally: Reijnders. Today, we see too much of players passing it backwards to avoid making a mistake. Milan? They have great potential, but every time they lose the ball, the opponents get a shot on target. On the positive side, they have many players who are good at dribbling, one-on-one, an aspect of the game that has disappeared in Italy,” he concluded.

Milan will play their first game of the season on Monday evening, taking on Bologna away from home. Reijnders will play from the first minute, along with a few other new signings, and it will be very interesting to see them all in action in Serie A.

  1. At least we’re alphabetically on the top in serie a starting table 😀

Does it mean we need stronger and more defensive midfielder from capello’s explanation.

  2. With so many new young players, also new to the league, it would be s miracle if we win.

I have Napoli and Juventus as favorites to the title. Inter had a shit goalkeeper.

  3. Don Fabio knows what he is talking about.
He is oof course refering to the lack of ANY decent DM in the team.
With all the players signed, this is an incredible oversight.
So frustrating, we finally have options in attack (particulary RW) and now we have no DM and a limited central defense

  4. Capello always said that we need three good players each year rather than recruiting 8 average ones. I think we cannot expect to qualify for CL this year, and I guess a 7th position is realistic.

    1. 7th? What brand of weed, are you smoking? I get it that some people aren’t optimistic about Scudetto, but 7th come on we aren’t that terrible.. So? I guess you would’ve been happy with us signing RLC, Arnautovic and Berardi rather than filling all voids? You do remember, we are in the Champions League, only because of Juventus docked points? Or are you in delusion, that we only need few reinforcement after winning the Scudetto?

  5. I am not worried about all these predictions .
We have a squad capable of competing with inter ,Napoli & juventus..
I personally think we have a better squad than all of them ..Once our new players settle in we will challenge for honours again this season .
I never rated capello as a manger ,,under his guidance the England team went through an awful patch .
Of course that was then ,just as this is now .
My prediction is 1 st position AC MILAN ..2 nd juventus..3 rd inter Milan ..4 th Napoli
I think it’s going to be very close this season .
Looking forward to it so much .

    1. “Never rated Capello”
He won trophies at every club he managed!!! Including Roma!!!
      Not to mention
      Madrid
      Milan
      Juventus
Won of the most successful managers in the history of football
And you don’t rate him because England (who never win anything and are always over hyped) did’nt win a world cup/ euro cup
Your posts are funny but this is really hilarious

    2. That is bs revisionism.
He did well with England. He got cheated in WC 2010 when Lampard’s goal vs Germany was wrongly disallowed despite it being a foot inside the goal.
He had a 66% win rate btw and he only quit because the English FA stripped John Terry of his captaincy.

  6. “Milan? They have great potential, but every time they lose the ball, the opponents get a shot on target.”

    I feel that tho

  7. They have great potential, but every time they lose the ball, the opponents get a shot on target. me too, this Quote is rolling in my head.

  8. Thanks but no thanks, Capello will swallow his words when we lift the scuddetto. We have better players than last season and someone in his right mind think Milan will end below top 4, that’s a terrible statement.
I bet most of you will not believe the way Milan will progress this season both on Italy and Europe, Milan will bring a new style of play in Serie A that other teams will adopt after this new season. So Capello keep your prediction to yourself, the season is long.

  9. Well, Capello forget that Inter lose Onana and replace him with Sommer. It certainly makes Inter no longer at overall best squad-strength.

Milan should be the strongest overall strength on paper, but we change to 4-3-3, not like our past 3 seasons with 4-2-3-1. It might hit us tactically & team cohesion.

  10. I don’t think anyone predicted Milan winning the 19th Scudetto last 2 seasons so I don’t think it’s a big deal Mister Capello.
