MN: Captaincy confusion between Kjaer and Theo Hernandez – what happened

By Oliver Fisher -

There was confusion over who should wear the captain’s armband after Davide Calabria went off during the 1-0 defeat to Inter last night.

MilanNews have given a reconstruction of the events, starting by noting that Theo Hernandez was and is the vice-captain of Milan. However, this indication is more a formality than a rule, so the players are then free to choose – in the event of the captain leaving – the team-mate to give the armband to.

Calabria, due to time constraints, left the armband in the hands of Kjaer who in turn moved towards Theo Hernandez presumably to then give it to him. It is possible that the two immediately clarified the matter and that Theo chose – without any mutiny or any other conspiracy – to leave it with the Dane.

After the swap took place Kjaer continued to wear it but he was brought off inside the final 10 minutes for Ante Rebic, and at the time of his withdrawal, he gave the armband to Theo.

  1. I dont know who should be vice-captain but i know our captain is shameful,so lost on the field, full of fear making a mess in defence since he came back after injury.

    1. What most shameful is; our captain isn’t even, one of the highest earners in the team..🤦Bakayoko, who doesn’t even play, earns more than our captain! That should, give you, a fair picture of, why we are struggling to renew Leao! 😀
