After nearly landing at San Siro six years ago, Ralf Rangnick is now once again within striking distance of a big role at AC Milan.
Milan wanted him as coach-director in 2020, but this time they want him to be the leader of the sporting side. After days of discussions and analysis, Gerry Cardinale and his right-hand man Massimo Calvelli are now firmly leaning towards handing the reins to the German.

Rangnick convinces Cardinale
That is according to Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews), who report this morning that Rangnick has set very specific conditions to accept Milan’s offer, given the way he likes to fully overhaul things.
These include the request for complete autonomy without any interference, a staff of a dozen people, the choice of a new coach and sporting director, and management of all the youth teams.
Speaking of the future coach, today is an important day because it will be the first face-to-face meeting between the Rossoneri and Oliver Glasner, one of the names suggested by Rangnick.
It remains to be seen whether this meeting will be decisive, given that a meeting will also take place this week with Matthias Jaissle, the other candidate mentioned by the Austrian coach, who is still under contract with Al-Ahli (€5m is needed to release him).
There’s also another non-trivial issue to tackle: it’s no secret that Zlatan Ibrahimovic – who is reorganising Milan together with Cardinale and Calvelli – is absolutely not in agreement with giving Rangnick carte blanche.
What will the Swede do? Will he accept the owner’s decision and take a step back? We’ll find out very soon, especially because the German is expected to sign or break his contract within three days.

A clear concept from top to bottom is what the club need, and Rangnick can give us just that.
Give Rangnick the sporting keys, hire a manager of his liking asap, and start building a team in accordance with the new managers preferences.
Then let Zlatan do and think what he does, who cares.
I agree.
I agree with you, Milan needs a project and identity, if we want for example to play offensive high press football then we recruit players and coaches based on that. Maybe Ragnick style won’t work maybe it will but at least he knows what he is been doing and that’s what Milan needs not random players and random coaches
If that is true, then its actually good news.. once for a while…
What I will add is, Gerry should in try and learn all aspects football business. It will help because lack of football knowledge from the owner is the reason Milan is in this mess today.
Actually that would be a bad idea because he’d interfere! The best thing for Cardinale is to only focus on what he’s good at – off the field matters. On the pitch matters should be left to the experts.
Like Zlatan ?
“… especially because the German is expected to sign or break his contract within three days….”
uhm… Italian media beeing a bit prematurely… might seem strange to them but there is still a world cup to play.
This generation of Italian has no idea there’s a thing called a World Cup 😂
I don’t know maybe I’m stupid but is it possible if Austria an Milan agree that he sign the contract with Milan and still be just on the world cup. It would be a good scenario if it’s possible
Ut med snackpåsen Zlatan.
Way to go…overhaul the whole structure and set clear guidelines for the new project.
Kick out ibra
Ibra should only show his face to young Players were trying to sign as a wow factor and that’s pretty much it.
It all just looks bad.
I’m fine with the Rangnick hire and if that is the direction to go then let’s get it moving. Milan are already behind.
But Gerry needs to tell Ibra to get with the program. He’s clearly leaking to the media that he wants a different direction. Who is actually calling the shots here?
Gerry is a Ibrahimovic fanboy. That’s the issue. You have to remember that Ibrahimovic was a big star in the MLS. Ibrahimovic’s role (whatever it is he actually does) was cut dramatically last year. Now he’s been given the chance to call the shots, we’ll see if he’s up to the task.
Ibra needs to get the F*** OUT!
I don’t mind Ragnick because he likes to build from the ground up, but Ibra has a point. Ragnicks obsession to controll everything could be a problem as well. Hence even though he is good at what he does, he is not always entirely linked to the Big clubs.
I have nothing against Rangnick, but Mr. Cardinale did not want to give the keys to everything to Paolo Maldini, who, in my opinion, proved himself 100% – so I believe that he should be the one building Milan.
I don’t know who is that guy Calvelli but I like him. Gerry needs to wake up and start hiring professionals who can build a long term project and stop listening to Zlatan. Ragnick is more like a club arhitect than a coach, look at RBL they were challenging for league title and ended on UCL spots based on a very good scouting and football identity, most impressive thing were the fact that one player was sold and another player from the bench was Already ready to fill his spot without making it feel like a huge loss. Maybe his style won’t work in Seria A but at least we should try because for the last 2 seasons Milan was a chicken without head, hires random coaches then hire random players who were nothing to do with the coach style.
This is so funny it’s tragic. So even after all the directors are fired and the only people left are teh owner and the advisor, there’s STILL friction in the ranks!!! This is insane!
Cardinale supposedly pushing for surrender of control to Rangnick (which sounds highly unlikely) and all the while Ibra is pushing for Pimenta’s clients and not necessarily for the best of Milan.
EL OH EL
This would be great news for Italian football.
I don’t like Ralf ragnick and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have a point with his decision.
Acmilan should be reasonable at this point 3- man defence is not ideal 4-3-3 is not ideal for Milan at this system is what Glasner want to introduce which is not safe let’s have meetings with other coaches then evaluate possibility of who will be Milan head coach so I would prefer Arne slot or Mattias jassle or Mauricio Pochettino.
