Cardinale explains why Milan are a ‘hidden gem’: “I always look for dislocation”

Gerry Cardinale has explained why he believes that AC Milan are a hidden gem and why European football continues to have so much potential.

Sportico spoke to ‘more than two dozen bankers, lawyers and investors’ directly involved in soccer to gauge the 50 most valuable teams. Manchester United leads the way at $5.95 billion, followed by Real Madrid ($5.23 billion), FC Barcelona ($4.95 billion), Liverpool ($4.71 billion) and Bayern Munich ($4.46 billion).

There are five other billion-dollar clubs by Sportico’s estimations, with Tottenham Hotspur at $3.19 billion then a big drop to 11th-ranked Juventus at $1.73 billion. Milan are No.14 at $1.2 billion, just ahead Inter ($1.12 billion).

Cardinale spoke during an interview with Sportico in which they revealed that Milan are actually the 14th-most valuable football club in the world, above rivals Inter and Roma.

“European football is the best live-event intellectual property in the world. I think AC Milan is one of the best in the money options that I’ve seen. It is one of the top global brands in European football and an undervalued asset. It’s a hidden gem,” Cardinale said.

Cardinale also mentioned how the public-private partnership in Europe is the ‘biggest fundamental philosophical difference’ when compared with the United States.

“I always look for dislocation. And I look for opportunities where my capital can solve problems, and that was very apparent to me, both with AC Milan on the micro level and Serie A on the macro,” he added.

Cardinale is laying the foundations for a new stadium for Milan, but he also wants to close the media rights gap between Serie A and Spain’s LaLiga, which is currently twice as high, as well as the Premier League where it is three times.

“Cash flow will not just magically appear: something has to be done. But if you truly believe in the quality of this intellectual property and the must-have nature of this content locally, nationally and globally, then there is absolutely no doubt that sooner or later they are generating cash flows.”

  1. Italian football has tons of potential. But the biggest problem is, the country is corrupt af. Why does it take forever to build a stadion? Why do you think?
I’ve heard from italians what its like to live in italy and how they view their goverment.. its not pretty

    1. I cant remember the speciffic year it whent up to but something like the late 90ies or the 00s i heard that since the end of ww2 up to that period of time there had been more governments than years in between.
Thats clearly an unstable country and i wont try to paint a pretty picture of our stadium saga as it clearly has been causing us a lot of issues but i think in regard of building stadium there are also some considerations in regard of their cultural heritage in regard of old ruins/cultures that shouldnt be forgotten either in the process.
Overall though i think its time to buy an area like that in sesto san giovanni to speed up the process as we cant keep waiting for a yes from the local municipality,

  2. ah yes… 2nd biggest team in europe is a “hidden gem”. now please do everyone a favor and sell the club you worthless dumb yank

    1. 2nd biggest team in Europe? No . Nowadays it’s true AC Milan is actually more like a brand rather than one of the biggest team. Yh they did get 7 CL but that was the old glory it was so many years ago that newer fans of football or just anybody they forgot about AC Milan so yh more like a brand . For me all I want is to have a ceo/ president that cares about the team and do everything to grow progress and truly helping overall the team and not be berlusconi or the Chinese CEO lin I think he name was that’s all

    2. You absolute clown, spot posting. Milan are not close to being the ‘2nd biggest’ team in Europe, where on Earth are you getting that from? It’s 2023 not 2003.

  3. Gerry is the hidden Red Turd nobody ever heard of!

During his short tenure, we have gone from 1st to 6th.
Summer of 2022 was to be a new dawn, instead we let that opportunity pass us by and have gone backwards.
Does anyone think the likes of Leao, Theo, Mike etc will hang around without Champions League football?
